Lexus NX 300h (2015-2021) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Superb build quality | Not as fuel-efficient as the official figures suggest |
| Very unlikely to go wrong | Lots of road noise at speed |
| Comfortable and reasonably quiet if driven smoothly | Irritating infotainment system |
Quick Summary
The Lexus NX 300h (2015-2021) is an overlooked premium compact SUV that deserves far more credit than it receives. Often overshadowed by diesel-powered German rivals and hybrid scepticism, the NX offers precision engineering, comprehensive standard equipment, and an exceptional reliability record. The self-charging hybrid powertrain combines a punchy 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a torque-rich electric motor, delivering all-four-wheel drive via a smooth CVT automatic transmission. Despite its large appearance, interior space is somewhat restrictive, though rear passengers enjoy impressive legroom and headroom, whilst the boot provides ample capacity for family needs.
Running costs are competitive, with claimed fuel economy of 54.3mpg and CO2 emissions of 121g/km, though real-world figures typically hover around the mid-thirties. The NX operates most efficiently at low speeds, maximising electric propulsion in urban driving. Annual servicing includes a comprehensive hybrid system health check, with warranty extensions available. Insurance groupings are steep at group 32 for the 300h. Residual values remain encouragingly strong, and with growing hybrid acceptance, resale prospects look positive. The cabin blends luxury with sophistication, featuring posh materials and comprehensive equipment, though the infotainment system is frustratingly eccentric and the driving position somewhat skewed.
Best for: Buyers seeking trouble-free, reliable motoring with premium build quality, those prioritising comfort and refinement, and drivers wanting a hybrid SUV with strong residual values.
Not ideal for: Those requiring maximum interior space, drivers wanting intuitive infotainment, or buyers sensitive to road noise at motorway speeds.

| Volvo XC60 | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 32.6% | 4.4/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the NX 300h if: You prioritise trouble-free, reliable motoring with premium build quality, value comfort and refinement, or seek a hybrid SUV with strong residual values.
Consider alternatives if: You require maximum interior space, demand intuitive infotainment, or are sensitive to road noise at motorway speeds.
Competitive Position: The Lexus NX 300h (2015-2021) is an underrated premium compact SUV offering exceptional reliability and build quality. Whilst the BMW X3 edges ahead on expert rating and overall performance, and the Volvo XC60 matches user satisfaction, the NX delivers superior value with 37.9% good/great deals available. It may lack the driving dynamics of German rivals, but its hybrid efficiency, comprehensive equipment, and stellar reliability make it an excellent choice for buyers seeking trouble-free ownership and strong resale prospects. The NX represents a sensible alternative to diesel-powered competitors, particularly as hybrid acceptance grows.

4.6 Overall rating
(12 reviews)Quality finish and quality materials. Very comfortable to drive with excellent seats. Good range of interesting technical toys to play with and all you will want as far as extras i.e. heated seats etc.
Safety, systems excellent, good vision and driving position. Roomy interior , has a spec safer spare wheel. Build quality excellent. The car for its size is ideal for easy parking in uk parking bays If find the ride is a bit “bumpy” . Price was good value from Lexus Leicester. Compared it with the Hyundai Tucson hybrid, had concerns about the smaller engine on the Hyundai (1.6) as I understand they can have valve problems over the longer term compared to the Lexus (2.5) engine type.
Brilliant Lexus quality vehicle with great comfort Thank you Lexus owner
Great car well built economical, plenty of bells and whistles. It has great body styling, holds value well. Ss
DO NOT RECOMMEND BUYING THIS, UNLESS YOU WOULD LIKE TO GO TO SLEEP AND WAKE UP THE NEXT MORNING TO FIND YOUR NEW LEXUS GONE. I bought this car and 8 days later this was stolen. I was shocked when I checked the CCTV footage, only to find that it took just over 5 minutes to steal. If you pay good money for a car, you don’t expect that it can be stolen without a key. Apparently you just need to disconnect the headlight and now the thieves got full controls to the car. Such a shame because the vehicle looks good. But what’s the point? Another Lexus NX300h was also stolen, about 4 mins away from my house. Absolute joke. Honestly don’t waste your money. The same might not happen to you, but why risk it. Why pay premium price when you can’t even get the bare minimum.
