The MINI Mini Countryman is highly regarded for its fun driving experience, comfort, and stylish design. Many owners appreciate its nippy performance and the added height that makes it feel more like an SUV. However, some have expressed concerns about visibility in tight spots and the overall price, especially when factoring in additional features that may not be standard. Overall, it's a compact SUV that balances practicality and enjoyment.

We love our Mini Countryman. I have owned Minis since the very first one came out in the 1960s I have owned other cars including BMWs and Mercedes but I always have a soft spot for Minis as they are good value for money, stylish, classless and fun to drive.

This 2.0 litre model performs extremely well as one would expect for a Cooper S variant, despite the size of the car. It has good acceleration, amazing stopping power and feels like a much bigger car. Overall, this car exceeded my expectation.

The inside of the 5 door felt incredibly cramped, very little room for a bale of hay. I find the 3 door is much more versatile.

MINI Countryman (2024-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Lots of interior space | Interior doesn't impress as much for quality |
| Well equipped | Infotainment has some ergonomic issues |
| Very stylish interior | Many rivals ride more comfortably |
Quick Summary
The MINI Countryman (2024-present) is a spacious and practical premium compact SUV that combines the brand's signature cheeky character with genuine family-friendly functionality. This third-generation model is considerably larger than its predecessor, offering generous interior space, excellent headroom and legroom, and a well-sized boot with additional hidden storage. The range includes three petrol variants (C, S, and high-performance JCW) plus two all-electric options (E and SE), all lavishly equipped as standard with LED lighting, roof rails, dual-zone climate control, parking sensors, heated steering wheel, reversing camera, and powered tailgate.
The standout feature is the industry-first circular OLED infotainment screen, which looks brilliant but can feel cluttered with information and has some ergonomic quirks. Driving dynamics vary by model: the entry-level C offers adequate performance with a 1.5-litre petrol engine, whilst the JCW delivers 296bhp with all-wheel drive and adaptive suspension for a more refined ride. Fuel economy ranges from 46.3mpg (C) to 36.2mpg (JCW), whilst electric variants offer up to 287 miles of range. Interior quality is mixed, with stylish highlights offset by hard, scratchy plastics in less visible areas. The ride is firm across the range, though the JCW's adaptive suspension significantly improves comfort.
Best for: Families seeking a premium compact SUV with genuine practicality, MINI enthusiasts wanting more space, and those valuing style and standard equipment over ultimate interior quality.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising the softest ride, those expecting luxury-level interior materials throughout, or those who find the infotainment system frustrating to navigate.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MINI Countryman | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 34.1% | 4.3/5 |
| BMW X1 | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 35.2% | 4.5/5 |
| Audi Q2 | 4/5 | 4.0/5 | 35.8% | 4.3/5 |
| Mercedes-Benz GLA | 4/5 | 4.4/5 | 36.2% | 4.4/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Countryman if: You're seeking a premium compact SUV with genuine practicality, want MINI's distinctive character in a family-friendly package, or value style and standard equipment highly.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise the softest ride, expect luxury-level interior materials throughout, or find touchscreen-heavy infotainment systems frustrating.
Competitive Position: The MINI Countryman (2024-present) is a compelling choice in the premium compact SUV segment, offering excellent interior space, generous standard equipment, and distinctive styling that rivals cannot match. Whilst the BMW X1 edges ahead on overall CarGurus rating and the Mercedes-Benz GLA offers slightly better value, the Countryman's combination of practicality, character, and style makes it an excellent option for those wanting something different. The firm ride and interior material quality are minor compromises for buyers who prioritise the brand's cheeky personality and spacious, well-equipped cabin.
