Mercedes-Benz EQB Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
High quality interior	Other SUVs are more fun to drive
Seven seats in an electric vehicle	Third-row seats are cramped
Quiet and comfortable	More expensive than petrol or diesel models

Quick Summary

The Mercedes-Benz EQB is a compact, seven-seat electric SUV that combines premium quality with practical family-friendly design. Revealed in 2021, it offers a choice of single-motor and dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations, with battery options ranging from 66.5kWh to 70.5kWh, delivering between 242 and 321 miles of range depending on specification. The cabin features a high-quality interior with dual 10.0-inch touchscreens, ambient lighting, and a comfortable driving position. Post-facelift models introduced in 2023 received exterior and interior design updates, the latest MBUX infotainment technology, and upgraded driving assistance systems, along with towing capability for the first time.

The EQB prioritises comfort and refinement over sporty handling, offering a smooth, confident drive with effective brake regeneration and a neutral cornering stance. Whilst the third-row seats are best suited for children or teenagers due to space constraints, the middle row provides an ideal hip-height for passengers with limited mobility. Running costs are significantly lower than petrol or diesel alternatives when charging at home, with a full charge costing around £16 at standard rates or £8 with off-peak tariffs. As a used car, the EQB represents excellent value for families seeking a premium, practical electric seven-seater with low running costs.

Best for: Families needing seven seats in an electric vehicle, buyers prioritising comfort and premium interior quality, and those seeking low running costs with home charging capability.

Not ideal for: Drivers wanting a performance-focused SUV, buyers requiring maximum interior space (five-seat alternatives offer more room), or those without access to home charging facilities.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the EQB if: You need seven seats in an electric vehicle, prioritise premium interior quality and comfort, or seek low running costs with home charging capability.

Consider alternatives if: You want a performance-focused SUV, require maximum interior space, or lack access to home charging facilities.

Competitive Position: The Mercedes-Benz EQB is a strong contender in the premium seven-seat electric SUV market, offering a compelling blend of practicality, high-quality interior finish, and low running costs. Whilst the Skoda Enyaq scores higher overall and offers more interior space as a five-seater, the EQB uniquely delivers seven seats with premium Mercedes quality. The Tesla Model Y matches the EQB's overall rating but offers less traditional cabin design, whilst the Peugeot 5008 provides a mixed offering. For families specifically seeking a seven-seat electric SUV with premium comfort and refinement, the EQB remains an excellent choice, particularly as a used purchase offering strong value.
