Peugeot took a very different approach when designing the second-generation 5008 compared to the first one. Where the original was an MPV and exactly the kind of car a large family might need, the decline of people carriers in the wider car market led Peugeot to think twice about repeating the same idea. Instead, it jumped on the SUV bandwagon, and created a car that was class-leading.

The 5008 engine-line up was traditional, with a mix of petrols and diesels that were also used by fellow PSA Group brands, Vauxhall and Citroen (now all under the Stellantis umbrella, along with other marques such as Jeep and Fiat). The 5008’s interior and exterior design made it a standout success, and a rival not just to seven-seaters from Skoda and Seat, but to traditionally more premium alternatives from BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz.

Although it was never offered with a full-hybrid or plug-in hybrid powertrain (only a 48V mild-hybrid), the second-generation 5008 remains a versatile, economical and desirable seven-seat SUV. Used examples are able to deliver a rewarding ownership experience.
