Peugeot Boxer (2006-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Impressive load space and payload | Rivals are more refined and better to drive |
| Economical 2.2-litre diesel | Some gearbox issues with older used models |
| Well equipped | Electric version won't go far on a charge |
Quick Summary
The Peugeot Boxer (2006-present) is a robust large van, developed in collaboration with Fiat and Citroen, sharing its platform with the Ducato and Relay. Launched in 2006, it significantly improved on its predecessor with enhanced practicality, better on-road manners, and economical HDi diesel engines. It offers a wide array of configurations, including panel, crew, and window vans, with impressive payload capacities ranging from 1,125kg to 1,870kg and load lengths up to 4,070mm. Its design prioritises utility, featuring wide-opening rear doors, generous space between wheel arches for pallet loading, and a practical cabin with ample storage.
Despite its age, the Boxer has been consistently updated, receiving a major facelift in 2014 and cleaner 2.0-litre and 2.2-litre BlueHDi diesel engines to meet modern emissions standards. While it may not match newer rivals for driving refinement, it remains highly manoeuvrable with light steering and good forward visibility. Running costs are competitive, with diesel models achieving 25-36mpg, and Peugeot offers service plans to help manage expenses. The electric e-Boxer provides a quieter experience, though with limited range. Its adaptability, substantial load capacity, and competitive economy make it a sensible choice for businesses needing a versatile workhorse.
Best for: Businesses needing a large, practical van with impressive load space and payload, those seeking competitive running costs, and buyers looking for an adaptable vehicle.
Not ideal for: Drivers prioritising modern refinement, superior driving dynamics, or a long-range electric van.

The Verdict
You should buy the Boxer if: You need a large, practical van with impressive load space and payload, competitive running costs, and good configurability.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise modern refinement, superior driving dynamics, or require a long-range electric van.
Competitive Position: The Peugeot Boxer (2006-present) offers excellent load space, payload capacity, and adaptability in the large van market. While rivals like the Mercedes Sprinter and Ford Transit may offer more modern refinement and driving dynamics due to their newer designs, the Boxer's continuous updates, economical BlueHDi engines, and competitive running costs keep it a strong contender. It represents a sensible and practical choice for businesses prioritising utility and value.

4 Overall rating
(5 reviews)Great drive and spacious!, compared to fiat Ducatto
Simple, uncomplicated vehicle with excellent economy. Build quality is ok, but there are better. It has most things I would want, as do it’s’non-biological triplets’, the Relay and Ducato and the Relay.
I took a certified mechanic with me. He found that signals of engine overheating. Also it builds pressure on the system and keep it even after van is cool. So something happened to that van
Great value, Great condition. Just out of my price ramge
Peugeot boxer van L3 H2 is one of the top models for converting to a camper van. It is exactly the same as the fiat deccato and the Renault. The Peugeot version has the much more reliable Peugeot engine making it the choice for reliability. The 2 litre Euro engine with the add blue means they are very economical to run and environmentally friendly enough to go through London so a big plus for anyone wanting a camper.
