Peugeot e-Rifter Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Large and very versatile cabin	Forgettable driving experience
Long model has space for seven	Lacks the image and style of an SUV
Excellent value for money	Diesel and petrol versions no longer available

Quick Summary

The Peugeot e-Rifter is an electric MPV designed for families who prioritise space and practicality over fashion-led appeal. Introduced in 2018 as a replacement for the Partner Tepee, it became the only option for private buyers when Peugeot dropped all combustion-engined versions from the UK range in 2022, making it one of the first family MPVs to go fully electric. The e-Rifter uses a 136bhp electric motor paired with a 52kWh battery, delivering an official range of 199 miles, though expect closer to 150 miles in real-world conditions. It's offered in two body lengths: the Standard model with five seats and the Long version with up to seven seats, both supporting rapid charging for a 0-80% top-up in around 38 minutes.

Few cars are as practical as the e-Rifter, with excellent passenger space, sliding rear doors for easy access, and exceptional boot capacity ranging from 700 litres to a warehouse-rivalling 3,500 litres depending on configuration. The electric drivetrain excels in urban environments with low running costs and a BiK rate of just 3% for company car drivers, whilst servicing intervals of 25,000 miles or two years keep maintenance affordable. However, the driving experience is forgettable on faster roads, with modest range and wind noise limiting motorway efficiency. The e-Rifter is best viewed as a relaxed, urban-friendly MPV perfect for school runs and family duties rather than long-distance travel.

Best for: Families seeking a practical, spacious electric MPV for urban driving and the school run, those wanting low running costs and excellent value, and buyers needing flexible seven-seat capacity.

Not ideal for: Those prioritising driving dynamics or motorway performance, buyers seeking premium styling and image, or those requiring a petrol or diesel alternative.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the e-Rifter if: You're a family seeking a practical, spacious electric MPV for urban driving and the school run, wanting low running costs and excellent value, or needing flexible seven-seat capacity.

Consider alternatives if: You prioritise driving dynamics or motorway performance, seek premium styling and image, or require a petrol or diesel alternative.

Competitive Position: The Peugeot e-Rifter is a strong contender in the electric MPV market, offering exceptional practicality, versatility, and value for money. Whilst it may not match rivals like the Citroen Berlingo for user ratings or the Ford Tourneo Connect for driving refinement, its electric powertrain, low running costs, and spacious interior make it an excellent choice for environmentally conscious families. The e-Rifter's focus on practicality over style sets it apart from SUV-obsessed buyers, and its competitive pricing ensures strong value. For those committed to electric family transport, the e-Rifter is one of the most sensible options available.
