Porsche Macan Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |

| Superbly made cabin | Tight on rear-seat space |
| Performance and Porsche badge kudos | You can buy more practical SUVs for less |
| Lovely driving dynamics across the board | Diesel engine option was dropped in 2018 |
Quick Summary
The Porsche Macan is a compact SUV that delivers superlative driving dynamics and a superbly crafted interior. Available in four petrol variants—the base Macan, Macan T, Macan S and Macan GTS—each offers impressive performance and engaging handling that sets it apart from rivals. The entry-level Macan and T use a responsive 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 261bhp, whilst the S and GTS employ a twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V6 with 375bhp and 434bhp respectively. All models feature all-wheel drive and deliver class-leading roadholding with a firm, responsive suspension setup that prioritises precision over comfort.
The Macan's cabin is exceptionally well-appointed with quality materials, comfortable multi-adjustable seating and a user-friendly infotainment system (particularly the upgraded 10.9-inch touchscreen on post-2021 models). Practicality is adequate rather than exceptional, with a spacious 458-litre boot and decent storage, though rear legroom is limited for tall adults. Running costs are significant, with Porsche servicing expensive and fuel economy modest at 24-28mpg depending on model. However, residual values remain strong, and the Macan's blend of performance, quality and driving engagement makes it a compelling choice for those prioritising dynamic ability over maximum practicality.
Best for: Drivers seeking a sporty, well-made SUV with engaging handling, those who value the Porsche badge, and buyers willing to prioritise driving dynamics over rear-seat space and practicality.
Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers, families needing maximum rear legroom, those seeking the most practical compact SUV, or drivers prioritising fuel economy and low running costs.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Porsche Macan | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 32.1% | 4.4/5 |

| Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class | 4/5 | 5.0/5 | 34.6% | 4.4/5 |

The Verdict
You should buy the Macan if: You prioritise driving dynamics and handling, value a superbly crafted interior, seek the prestige of the Porsche badge, or want an SUV that's genuinely enjoyable on winding roads.
Consider alternatives if: You need maximum rear-seat space, require the most practical compact SUV, are budget-conscious, or prioritise fuel economy and low running costs.
Competitive Position: The Porsche Macan stands out in the compact premium SUV segment for its exceptional driving dynamics and beautifully appointed cabin. Whilst rivals like the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class offer greater practicality and the Audi Q5 provides a more spacious interior, none match the Macan's engaging handling and quality feel. The Macan's strong residual values and impressive performance across all variants make it an excellent choice for discerning drivers willing to trade some practicality for a genuinely thrilling driving experience. The entry-level Macan offers superb value, delivering most of the GTS's dynamic appeal at a significantly lower cost.

4.8 Overall rating
(5 reviews)Great SUV , well built drives brilliantly and in my opinion the best SUV on the road
Excellent car all the luxury I’ve grown to expect in my new car Diesel engine too so economical also
An SUV that drives like a sports car, brilliant Road holding for such a large car.
Holds it value better than any other SUV , stylish and lots of guts . Expense !!
The car is older than i would like, it has many additional features that I wanted, The mileage is reasonable. The long term use will prove whether it is worth paying so much for a Porsche.
