Renault Captur (2020-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Practical cabin with its clever sliding rear bench | Not as much fun to drive as a Ford Puma |
| Frugal hybrid model | Elements of interior build quality could be better |
| Excellent Google-based touchscreen system | Poor quality reversing camera |
Quick Summary
The second-generation Renault Captur (2020-present) builds on its popular predecessor, offering stylish looks, a comfortable ride, and an elevated driving position. Based on the Clio, it provides greater interior space, with enough room for four adults and a clever sliding rear bench that allows you to trade legroom for boot space (444 litres for petrol models, 362 litres for hybrids). A facelift in mid-2024 brought a redesigned front end and an updated infotainment system.
Engine options include a 1.0-litre TCe 90 petrol and an efficient E-Tech Hybrid system (145bhp), with older versions offering a 1.3-litre petrol and diesel choices. Post-facelift models feature an excellent Google-backed 10.4-inch touchscreen and generous standard equipment. Running costs are low, with the hybrid achieving around 60mpg in real-world driving. While not as thrilling to drive as some rivals, it's a safe, practical, and well-equipped compact crossover.
Best for: Drivers seeking a stylish, practical, and efficient compact crossover; those who appreciate a comfortable ride and modern infotainment; and buyers prioritising low running costs.
Not ideal for: Drivers seeking an engaging, sporty driving experience; buyers needing the largest possible boot space (especially with the hybrid); or those sensitive to some interior build quality issues or a low-resolution reversing camera.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

| Renault Captur | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 32.4% | 4.4/5 |

The Verdict
You should buy the Captur if: You want a stylish, practical, and efficient compact crossover with a comfortable ride, good equipment levels, and a modern infotainment system.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise a more engaging driving experience, need maximum boot space (especially in hybrid models), desire premium interior build quality throughout, or seek the longest warranty.
Competitive Position: The Renault Captur (2020-present) is a strong contender in the compact crossover market, building on its predecessor's success with improved styling, space, and a refined hybrid option. While it offers a comfortable and practical experience with excellent tech (post-facelift), rivals like the Ford Puma may offer a more dynamic drive, and some competitors boast longer warranties. Its efficiency and attractive pricing make it a sensible and stylish choice for many buyers.

4.5 Overall rating
(33 reviews)Good car plenty off room for me and the family seats come off to be washed . Does the job
I like the size. The convenience of keyless open and lock. Has great boot space.
Really nice car with low mileage. Very comfortable and a good drive.
Handles really well. Smooth ride, excellent features, efficient. Highly recommend
Good value and car contained all the features we required. Engine smooth and handling light. Sat Nav and infotainment simple to navigate as well as good quality. This was a 6 speed manual which was easy to change and responsive. Comparable to the Nissan Qashqia and smaller Ford Ecosport.
