Renault Captur (2020-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Practical cabin with its clever sliding rear bench | Not as much fun to drive as a Ford Puma |
| Frugal hybrid model | Elements of interior build quality could be better |
| Excellent Google-based touchscreen system | Poor quality reversing camera |
Quick Summary
The second-generation Renault Captur (2020-present) builds on the success of its predecessor, offering a stylish and practical compact crossover based on the Clio hatchback. It provides greater interior space and an elevated driving position, making it a comfortable choice for four adults. A standout practical feature is the sliding rear bench, allowing users to prioritise either rear legroom or boot space. Petrol models offer a generous 444 litres (up to 1,275 litres with seats down), though hybrid versions have a smaller 362-litre boot.
Engine options post-2024 facelift include a 1.0-litre TCe 90 petrol and an efficient 145bhp E-Tech Hybrid, offering claimed figures of 47mpg and 60mpg respectively. The Captur provides a comfortable, civilised driving experience, though it's less engaging than a Ford Puma. Facelifted models from Techno trim upwards feature an excellent Google-backed 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with physical controls for climate. Standard equipment is generous, even on entry-level models, contributing to its appeal as a cost-effective and well-appointed compact SUV.
Best for: Drivers seeking a stylish, practical, and economical compact crossover, families needing flexible interior space, and those who value user-friendly infotainment.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising an engaging driving experience (like a Ford Puma), those sensitive to interior material quality, or requiring a top-tier reversing camera.

The Verdict
You should buy the Captur if: You're seeking a stylish, practical, and economical compact crossover, a family car with flexible interior space, or value user-friendly infotainment.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise an engaging driving experience, are particular about interior material quality, or need a high-quality reversing camera.
Competitive Position: The Renault Captur is a strong contender in the compact crossover segment, offering a compelling blend of style, practicality, and value. While it may not deliver the outright driving engagement of a Ford Puma or the extended warranty of a Kia Stonic, its flexible interior, efficient hybrid option, and excellent Google-backed infotainment system make it a sensible and attractive choice. Its competitive pricing and generous standard equipment further solidify its position as a highly popular option for those seeking a well-rounded small SUV.

4.5 Overall rating
(33 reviews)Good car plenty off room for me and the family seats come off to be washed . Does the job
I like the size. The convenience of keyless open and lock. Has great boot space.
Really nice car with low mileage. Very comfortable and a good drive.
Handles really well. Smooth ride, excellent features, efficient. Highly recommend
Good value and car contained all the features we required. Engine smooth and handling light. Sat Nav and infotainment simple to navigate as well as good quality. This was a 6 speed manual which was easy to change and responsive. Comparable to the Nissan Qashqia and smaller Ford Ecosport.
