Renault Megane E-Tech Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Good to drive	Terrible rear visibility
Impressive infotainment system	Strangely shaped boot
Looks good inside and out	Only one battery option

Quick Summary

The Renault Megane E-Tech is a stylish and capable electric crossover that marks a significant departure from the traditional family hatchback the Megane name once represented. This modern EV combines striking exterior design with a sophisticated interior, featuring an impressive Google-integrated infotainment system and quality materials throughout. With 218bhp and 300Nm of torque from its front-mounted electric motor, the Megane E-Tech delivers punchy performance and agile handling, making it genuinely enjoyable to drive despite its top-heavy SUV styling. The 60kWh battery offers approximately 240 miles of real-world range, whilst supporting rapid DC charging at up to 130kW for convenient top-ups.

However, the Megane E-Tech has notable compromises. Rear visibility is particularly poor, with a tiny rear window that severely limits sightlines, and the interior packaging is unconventional, resulting in an oddly shaped boot with a substantial loading lip that hampers practicality. Rear-seat headroom is limited for taller passengers, and the middle rear seat offers minimal comfort. Despite these drawbacks, the Megane E-Tech remains an appealing proposition for buyers seeking a stylish, well-equipped electric SUV with engaging driving dynamics and competitive running costs. Charging at home costs approximately £17 per full charge at standard rates, or significantly less on discounted overnight tariffs.

Best for: Buyers seeking a stylish and fun-to-drive electric SUV with excellent infotainment, those prioritising modern technology and design, and drivers with straightforward charging needs at home.

Not ideal for: Families requiring maximum rear-seat space and visibility, those needing maximum boot practicality, or buyers wanting multiple battery options for different range requirements.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Megane E-Tech if: You prioritise style and modern technology, enjoy engaging driving dynamics, and want an electric SUV with an impressive infotainment system and competitive pricing.

Consider alternatives if: You require maximum rear-seat space and visibility, need superior boot practicality, or prefer multiple battery options for greater range flexibility.

Competitive Position: The Renault Megane E-Tech is a stylish and engaging electric SUV that stands out for its design, infotainment capabilities, and driving enjoyment. Whilst it scores lower on the overall CarGurus rating compared to rivals like the Kia e-Niro (4.6/5) and Volkswagen ID.3 (4.4/5), it remains competitive on value and offers a more distinctive design than some competitors. The Megane E-Tech's main weaknesses—rear visibility and unconventional interior packaging—are offset by its strengths in technology, driving dynamics, and aesthetic appeal. For buyers willing to accept these compromises in exchange for style and sophistication, the Megane E-Tech represents an excellent choice in the compact electric SUV segment.
