Seat Alhambra (2010-2020) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Fantastically practical | Some potential reliability issues |
| Sliding doors a real boon | Ford S-Max is better to drive |
| Surprisingly enjoyable to drive | Luggage space tight with all seven seats in place |
Quick Summary
The Seat Alhambra (2010-2020) is a highly practical and spacious seven-seat MPV, offering a significant improvement over its predecessor. Designed for large families, it provides ample room for seven adults, complemented by convenient sliding doors and family-friendly features like integrated child seats and Isofix mounts on all five rear seats. With the third row folded, boot space expands to 809 litres, increasing to a van-like 2,430 litres with all rear seats stowed. Although new models are no longer available, its practicality makes it a valuable choice in the used market, standing out in an era increasingly dominated by SUVs.
Despite its size, the Alhambra offers surprisingly engaging driving dynamics, with decent body control, ample grip, and assured steering, making it one of the better-driving MPVs alongside the Ford S-Max. It provides an effortlessly comfortable ride. Engine options include TSI petrol and TDI diesel units, with diesels generally offering better fuel efficiency, achieving real-world mpg figures in the low to mid-40s. While early infotainment systems are dated, models from 2015 onwards feature improved Easy Connect systems with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Running costs are reasonable, with insurance groups starting from 13 for some diesel variants.
Best for: Large families needing genuine seven-seat capacity, buyers prioritising practicality and space over SUV styling, those looking for an MPV that is also enjoyable to drive, and budget-conscious buyers seeking reasonable running costs.
Not ideal for: Buyers wanting the latest infotainment technology (unless opting for post-2015 models), those who prefer the premium badge appeal of rivals like the VW Sharan, or people who need extensive boot space with all seven seats upright.

The Verdict
You should buy the Alhambra if: You're a large family needing genuine seven-seat capacity, prioritising practicality and space over SUV styling, looking for an MPV that is also enjoyable to drive, or a budget-conscious buyer seeking reasonable running costs.
Consider alternatives if: You want the latest infotainment technology (unless opting for post-2015 models), prefer the premium badge appeal of rivals like the VW Sharan, or require extensive boot space with all seven seats upright.
Competitive Position: The Seat Alhambra (2010-2020) stands out as a highly practical and cleverly designed used MPV, offering genuine seven-seat capacity and impressive versatility. While it might face some reliability concerns and isn't quite as sharp to drive as a Ford S-Max, it is nevertheless one of the most enjoyable MPVs from behind the wheel. Its strong practicality, comfortable ride, and relatively affordable running costs, particularly with the diesel engines, make it an excellent choice for large families prioritizing space and functionality over the latest tech or ultimate driving dynamics. It offers a compelling alternative to SUVs in the family transport segment.

3.9 Overall rating
(8 reviews)Very comfortable and spacious with lots of good features. Kids love the panoramic roof!
Giving it 5* as it does look nice in battleship grey as I call it, and it drives lovely, has a lot of toys, 240v inverter, blinds in rear doors are just to name some of the items that were not mentioned.. to get the same spec in the VW Sharan, you would probably look at an additional £2k However, the leg space in the 2nd row isnt the best, felt there is more in a Vauxhall Zafira. And if I would have really searched I would have preferred the same spec car but without leather, not a fan of sticky back and legs!
Back seats unremovable to tight for the back passenger . No spare wheel aswell
very comfortable and trustable good as well and love it
The car was a total disgrace to anyone trying to sell it. Outside all shiny and polished, inside was terrible. Oil marks on the roof lining, mats and plastic sill trim filthy. Leather seats had obviuosly been used fir carrying something as the leather had indent marks on them.... and finally the rear offside sliding door would not open electrically or manually. Very disappointed, but delighted i didnt have to ponder too much on a decision. Utterly dreadful example of a lovely car. £20,000 plus?.... NO WAY
