Seat Alhambra (2010-2020) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Fantastically practical | Some potential reliability issues |
| Sliding doors a real boon | Ford S-Max is better to drive |
| Surprisingly enjoyable to drive | Luggage space tight with all seven seats in place |
Quick Summary
The second-generation Seat Alhambra (2010-2020) is a highly practical and versatile MPV, significantly improved over its predecessor. It offers generous cabin space, comfortably accommodating seven adults across three rows, with sliding rear doors enhancing accessibility in tight spaces. While no longer sold new, its impressive practicality, including integrated child seats and Isofix mounts on all five rear seats, makes it a compelling used choice for large families. Boot space is tight with all seven seats up, but expands to 809 litres with the third row folded and a van-like 2,430 litres with all rear seats stowed.
Driving dynamics are surprisingly good for an MPV, with assured handling and comfortable ride quality, making it one of the best in its class to drive, second only to the Ford S-Max. Engine options include a 1.4 TSI petrol and various 2.0-litre TDI diesels, with diesels generally offering better fuel efficiency, especially for loaded cars. Real-world economy for diesels typically ranges from 40-45mpg. Infotainment systems improved significantly post-2015, offering modern features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Running costs are reasonable, with affordable insurance groups and fixed-price servicing options available. Despite some potential reliability concerns, a well-maintained Alhambra represents excellent value.
Best for: Large families needing genuine seven-seat capacity, buyers prioritising practicality, versatile seating, and ease of access (sliding doors), and those seeking a surprisingly engaging driving experience in an MPV.
Not ideal for: Buyers who need extensive boot space with all seven seats in use, those expecting the badge appeal of some German rivals, or individuals wary of potential reliability issues without a full service history.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Seat Alhambra | 5/5 | 3.9/5 | 32.1% | 4.2/5 |
| Citroen Grand C4 Picasso | 4/5 | 4.4/5 | 45.6% | 4.3/5 |
| Volkswagen Sharan | 4/5 | 4.7/5 | 29.6% | 4.2/5 |
| Ford S-Max | 4/5 | 3.8/5 | 33.9% | 4.3/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Alhambra if: You're a large family needing genuine seven-seat capacity, prioritising practicality, versatile seating, and ease of access (sliding doors), or seeking a surprisingly engaging driving experience in an MPV.
Consider alternatives if: You need extensive boot space with all seven seats in use, expect the badge appeal of some German rivals, or are wary of potential reliability issues without a full service history.
Competitive Position: The Seat Alhambra (2010-2020) stands out in the used MPV market for its exceptional practicality, genuine seven-seat capacity, and surprisingly good driving dynamics. While it shares much with the Volkswagen Sharan, its slightly sportier character gives it an edge for some drivers, though it doesn't quite match the Ford S-Max for pure driving enjoyment. Its versatile interior, sliding doors, and reasonable running costs make it a strong contender against rivals like the Citroen Grand C4 Picasso, especially for budget-conscious families who need maximum space and functionality. The potential for reliability issues should be noted, but a well-maintained example offers significant value.

3.9 Overall rating
(8 reviews)Very comfortable and spacious with lots of good features. Kids love the panoramic roof!
Giving it 5* as it does look nice in battleship grey as I call it, and it drives lovely, has a lot of toys, 240v inverter, blinds in rear doors are just to name some of the items that were not mentioned.. to get the same spec in the VW Sharan, you would probably look at an additional £2k However, the leg space in the 2nd row isnt the best, felt there is more in a Vauxhall Zafira. And if I would have really searched I would have preferred the same spec car but without leather, not a fan of sticky back and legs!
Back seats unremovable to tight for the back passenger . No spare wheel aswell
very comfortable and trustable good as well and love it
The car was a total disgrace to anyone trying to sell it. Outside all shiny and polished, inside was terrible. Oil marks on the roof lining, mats and plastic sill trim filthy. Leather seats had obviuosly been used fir carrying something as the leather had indent marks on them.... and finally the rear offside sliding door would not open electrically or manually. Very disappointed, but delighted i didnt have to ponder too much on a decision. Utterly dreadful example of a lovely car. £20,000 plus?.... NO WAY
