Seat Tarraco (2018-present) Pros and Cons

Pros Cons
Lots of standard equipment A little pricey compared with some rivals
Good to drive Third row of seats really for kids only
Versatile interior Badge doesn't quite have the kudos of a VW

Quick Summary

The Seat Tarraco (2018-present) is a stylishly designed seven-seat large SUV that arrived late to the market but has differentiated itself through sharp design and impressive practicality. The cabin is well-appointed with a spacious, usable layout featuring a 40:20:40 middle-row bench and optional third-row seats for occasional use. With a 700-litre boot and excellent interior versatility, the Tarraco offers more space than rivals such as the Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe, whilst maintaining a commanding driving position and good visibility.

The Tarraco impresses with its driving dynamics, feeling more agile than competitors despite weighing over 1,800kg, with stable cornering and accurate steering. Technology is comprehensive, including an 8.0-inch touchscreen, 10.25-inch digital driver display, and smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Running costs are moderate for the class, though fuel economy is typical for large SUVs, with diesel engines achieving 44-48mpg officially and petrol variants returning 25-30mpg in real-world driving. Resale values are predicted to be among the best in its segment, and the Tarraco is well-equipped across all trim levels, justifying its premium positioning.

Best for: Buyers seeking a stylish seven-seat SUV with excellent practicality, good driving dynamics, and comprehensive standard equipment, particularly those who value design and versatility. Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers prioritising the lowest price in the segment, those requiring genuine adult space in the third row, or buyers seeking the premium badge appeal of a Volkswagen.

The Verdict

You should buy the Tarraco if: You're seeking a stylish seven-seat SUV with excellent practicality, good driving dynamics, and comprehensive standard equipment, particularly if you value design and versatility. Consider alternatives if: You're prioritising the lowest price in the segment, require genuine adult space in the third row, or seek the premium badge appeal of a Volkswagen. Competitive Position: The Seat Tarraco (2018-present) is a strong contender in the seven-seat SUV market, offering stylish design, impressive practicality, and engaging driving dynamics. Whilst it may not match the Volkswagen Tiguan for premium badge appeal or the Peugeot 5008 for value, the Tarraco's comprehensive standard equipment, versatile interior, and excellent build quality make it an attractive choice for buyers who appreciate design and functionality. Its predicted resale values are among the best in the segment, making it a sensible long-term investment for families seeking a well-rounded seven-seat SUV.

Reviewed a 2019 Seat Tarraco on Feb 26, 2023

Excellent car; love the panoramic roof and the virtual dashboard. The ride is quite hard and the sound from the speakers quite tinny. Having owned a Skoda Kodiaq, before, I had assumed that it would be similar. Instead, it felt a little like the poor relation in terms of interior quality, sound quality, and ride.
