Skoda Superb (2025-) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Outstanding interior space and practicality | Interior design and quality don’t match premium rivals |
| Well-equipped across all trims | A BMW 5 Series is more enjoyable to drive |
| Comfortable ride and very refined | Reduced boot space in the plug-in hybrid |
Quick Summary
The Skoda Superb (2025-), now in its fourth generation, is Skoda’s largest and most accomplished family car, known for offering exceptional interior space and standard equipment at a competitive price. Available as both a hatchback and an estate, it often provides more room than similarly priced SUVs, even surpassing a Mercedes-Benz E-Class in size. This latest model features a cleaner design, enhanced technology, and a wider range of electrified powertrains, including petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid (iV) options with impressive electric range.
All versions come with a DSG automatic transmission, and the trim levels (SE Technology, SE L, SportLine, Laurin & Klement) offer a clear progression from value to luxury. The Superb prioritises comfort and refinement, making it ideal for long-distance cruising with excellent sound insulation and a smooth ride. Running costs are competitive, with the 1.5-litre petrol achieving around 50mpg and the PHEV offering significant tax benefits and over 70 miles of electric range. Its outstanding practicality, including a 645-litre hatchback boot (690-litre estate), makes it one of the most spacious cars on the road.
Best for: Buyers seeking outstanding interior space and practicality, those prioritising comfort and refinement for long journeys, and drivers looking for excellent value in a large family car. Company car drivers will also benefit from the PHEV's low BiK tax.
Not ideal for: Drivers who prioritise dynamic handling (like a BMW 5 Series), those expecting a premium-feeling interior to match high-end rivals, or buyers needing maximum boot space in a plug-in hybrid estate.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Skoda Superb | 5/5 | 4.6/5 | 33.3% | 4.5/5 |
| Volkswagen Passat | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 34.8% | 4.3/5 |
| Peugeot 508 | 3/5 | 4.0/5 | 30.4% | 4.0/5 |
| Audi A6 Avant | 3/5 | 4.0/5 | 27.9% | 4.0/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Superb if: You're seeking outstanding interior space and practicality, prioritising comfort and refinement for long journeys, or looking for excellent value in a large family car. It's also ideal for company car drivers due to the PHEV's low BiK tax.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise dynamic handling over comfort, expect a premium-feeling interior on par with high-end luxury rivals, or require the largest possible boot space in a plug-in hybrid estate.
Competitive Position: The Skoda Superb (2025-) stands out in the large car market for its unparalleled practicality, comfort, and value. It offers more interior and boot space than many premium-badged rivals and even some SUVs, at a significantly lower price point. While it doesn't aim for the most dynamic driving experience or the most luxurious interior finishes, its focus on refinement, advanced technology, and competitive running costs, especially with the efficient PHEV option, makes it an exceptionally sensible and convincing choice for families and long-distance drivers.

4.6 Overall rating
(20 reviews)Slightly expensive but in very good condition! Nothing comparable. to a Skoda Superb
Good spec. Similar in size to A6 avant. Good value for what you get
Reliable robust vehicle, spectacular inside with many extras as standard. Owned one of these before, never broke, just normal running costs, amazing on fuel.
In SEL format this car is extremely well speced. It provides a great level of standard internal items which are considered high cost extras on many similar vehicles such as the Mercedes C class or Audi A4. Models to go for are the extremely frugal diesels with DSG gearboxes. Reliability is first class and running costs relatively low compared with similar cars.
Cream leather comfort encased in metallic maroon elegance. Economic space ship with cruise control. Luxury unbound.
