The fifth-generation Subaru Forester is a practical, sensible car, well suited to country living. Indeed, around three-quarters of Forester buyers live out in the sticks, according to Subaru. There are no 4x4 lookalike versions; every Forester is a proper 4x4, and can handle itself in wet or wintery weather. However, it's an expensive new car and just one engine variant is offered, limiting the Subaru's appeal.
