Suzuki S-Cross (2021-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Very keenly priced	Big jump in price between Motion and Ultra spec
Loaded with luxury and safety kit	Some rivals have longer warranties
Excellent 1.4-litre petrol engine	Only adequate ride and handling

Quick Summary

The Suzuki S-Cross (2021-present) is a comprehensively reworked midsize family SUV that addresses many of its predecessor's shortcomings. This latest incarnation features a smarter appearance, improved interior quality, enhanced practicality with a 430-litre boot, and more civilised road manners. It comes exceptionally well equipped with luxury and safety features across both Motion and Ultra trim levels, including automatic LED headlights, dual-zone climate control, adaptive cruise control, and a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.

The standout feature is the 1.4-litre Boosterjet turbo engine, which delivers bullish performance from low revs whilst remaining smooth and quiet. The S-Cross offers impressive value for money, priced aggressively compared to rivals like the Nissan Qashqai, Kia Sportage, and Hyundai Tucson, despite offering comparable or superior standard equipment. Fuel economy is respectable at around 53mpg for the manual Motion model, dropping to approximately 46mpg for the four-wheel-drive Ultra automatic. Whilst the ride and handling are merely adequate rather than exceptional, the overall package represents a compelling proposition for family buyers seeking excellent value and comprehensive kit.

Best for: Budget-conscious family buyers seeking a well-equipped midsize SUV, those prioritising value for money and standard safety features, and drivers wanting a practical vehicle with a responsive engine.

Not ideal for: Buyers seeking the finest ride comfort or handling dynamics, those wanting to avoid the significant price jump between trim levels, or those requiring extended warranty coverage.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the S-Cross if: You're seeking excellent value for money, want a well-equipped midsize SUV with comprehensive safety features, or prioritise a responsive engine and practical interior space.

Consider alternatives if: You demand the finest ride comfort and handling dynamics, wish to avoid significant trim-level price differences, or require extended warranty coverage as standard.

Competitive Position: The Suzuki S-Cross (2021-present) is now a far more compelling alternative in the midsize SUV segment than its predecessor. Whilst it may not be the absolute best in its class, its aggressive pricing, comprehensive standard equipment, and responsive 1.4-litre engine make it highly competitive against established rivals like the Nissan Qashqai, Kia Sportage, and Hyundai Tucson. The S-Cross delivers an appealing blend of practicality, value, and capability that will appeal to budget-conscious family buyers who don't want to compromise on kit or performance.
