Suzuki Vitara (2015-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Good to drive, and comfortable too | Disappointing interior quality |
| Lively 1.4-litre engine | 1.0-litre model is quite slow |
| Lots of space inside | Vague steering |
Quick Summary
The Suzuki Vitara (2015-present) marks a significant evolution, stepping down in size to compete in the highly popular compact SUV segment. It offers good front space and reasonable rear legroom, though the narrow cabin is best suited for two passengers. Boot capacity ranges from 289 to 362 litres depending on the hybrid type. While interior plastics can feel basic and the touchscreen infotainment system is somewhat dated, the cabin layout is generally logical.
Driving the Vitara is surprisingly engaging for its class, providing ample grip and agile handling, despite light steering. Engine options evolved from 1.6-litre petrol/diesel to 1.0-litre and 1.4-litre turbo petrols, with the 1.4-litre being a highlight. Optional 4WD and automatic gearboxes add versatility. Running costs are average, with petrol models achieving 40-50mpg. Petrol versions benefit from a long-lasting timing chain, contributing to lower long-term maintenance.
Best for: Drivers seeking a spacious and fun-to-drive compact SUV, buyers looking for a well-equipped car with a strong reliability record, and those who might benefit from optional 4WD or automatic gearboxes.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising premium interior quality or a modern infotainment system, those needing comfortable seating for three adults in the rear, or drivers sensitive to a firm ride or wind/road noise.

4.6 Overall rating
(12 reviews)Unlike many 4wd cars that are the size of tanks, the Vitara is compact outside which makes for easier parking and driving in narrow spaces. Its comfortable and has great all-round views through large windows. Theres some road and wind noise which spoils the experience but its a feel-good drive that handles easily. The shape is a personal choice but I think it stands out from most big-car style 4wds. Boot space could be bigger but its not a deal changer for me. I really like this car and Ive had about 15-20 in my lifetime (some wrecks, some gems) but Id recommend the Vitara.
Reasonably good value for price compared with market competition . Sufficient extras for the senior driver.
Test driven an auto Suzuki vitara last week, very impressive car which was a full hybrid, did some research on hybrids which are ok if you do regular driving but not for me, as I do not. Having said that, they are an excellent buy, with lots of extras.
Excellent features on this car. A very smooth drive. 4x4 but smallish and compact. Great boot size. Cruise control good - extra on 2019 us lane assist and blind spot.
very good and what I was looking for. Thank you
