Toyota C-HR (2024-present) Pros and Cons

Pros Cons
Low running costs Expensive compared with rivals
Distinctive styling Safety systems can be overly intrusive
Good to drive Lots of random beeps and bongs

Quick Summary

The Toyota C-HR (2024-present) is a boldly styled compact crossover, designed and built in Europe, available as a self-charging or plug-in hybrid. It promises low running costs and Toyota's renowned reliability, aiming to stand out in a competitive segment against rivals like the VW T-Roc and Seat Ateca. While not the cheapest or roomiest, its striking design, efficient hybrid powertrains, and comfortable, engaging drive make it a compelling all-rounder.

The C-HR offers good practicality for four, with decent legroom and varying boot capacities (388 litres for 1.8L hybrid, 310 litres for PHEV). Its hybrid system provides smooth, quiet low-speed driving and impressive real-world fuel economy, with self-charging models achieving over 50mpg. Driving dynamics balance entertainment with comfort, though its active driver assist systems can be intrusive. Despite higher insurance groups and VED for some models, its reliability and efficiency contribute to competitive running costs.

Best for: Buyers seeking a distinctive, efficient, and reliable compact crossover, those prioritising low running costs and a comfortable yet engaging drive.

Not ideal for: Those on a strict budget, buyers who need maximum interior space or boot capacity, or those who dislike intrusive driver assist systems.

The Verdict

You should buy the C-HR if: You're seeking a distinctive, efficient, and reliable compact crossover, prioritising low running costs and a comfortable yet engaging drive.

Consider alternatives if: You're on a strict budget, need maximum interior space or boot capacity, or dislike intrusive driver assist systems.

Competitive Position: The Toyota C-HR (2024-present) carves out a strong niche in the compact crossover market with its unique styling and efficient hybrid-only powertrains. While it might be pricier than some rivals and not the most spacious, its blend of Toyota's renowned reliability, low running costs, and a surprisingly engaging driving experience makes it a highly recommendable option. It stands out from competitors like the Seat Ateca and VW T-Roc through its bold design and hybrid focus, offering a compelling package for those who value efficiency and individuality.

Great features and a lovely drive. It’s quiet and sleek and the interior is pretty. I wish the speakers were louder but that’s because I like to have the music blaring down the motorway LOL

Offers great overall value for money. Spec is plentiful although top model (Dynamic) actually isnt as well appointed as the Excel spec which is supposed to be one notch down. Compare the features and the Excel actually offers a better value for money balance. Look for one with the Premium pack and you will get full leather seats and an upgraded JBL sound system.

So many amazing features on this particular car make it such good value. Having taken several other makes for a test drive prior to this one, it seemed as though all the good points from all the other cars had been incorporated into this one car. I just couldnt let it go!!!

The car was in a terrible state. There was damage to the bumper and it was really dirty inside. It did not match the condition advertised in the advert
