Toyota Verso (2013-2018) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Clever and practical cabin	Short on luggage space if all seven seats are in place
Reliable, hassle-free family motoring	Dull looks, even for an MPV
Affordable used prices	Not all engines were available with an auto

Quick Summary

The Toyota Verso (2013-2018) is a practical and reliable seven-seater family MPV that prioritises functionality over fashion. This generation offers a flexible cabin with seats that slide individually to balance legroom and boot space, whilst both middle and rear rows fold completely flat. With just 155 litres of luggage space when all seats are in place, it's best suited for families who value versatility. The facelifted models from 2013 feature slimmer grilles and updated headlights, and all versions come equipped with Toyota's Pre-Sense safety systems and a five-star EuroNCAP rating.

Running costs are impressively low, with the 1.6-litre diesel achieving 62.8mpg and petrol engines returning between 41.5 and 43.5mpg. Service intervals are straightforward at 12 months or 10,000 miles, and Toyota's 5-Club offers 20% savings on servicing after five years. Insurance groupings range from 10 to 11, keeping premiums budget-friendly. Whilst the Verso may lack the visual appeal of rivals like the Ford S-Max, its bulletproof reliability, affordable running costs and effortless driving characteristics make it an indispensable choice for hassle-free family motoring.

Best for: Families seeking practical, reliable and affordable seven-seater motoring, those prioritising flexibility and ease of use, and budget-conscious buyers wanting low running costs.

Not ideal for: Buyers seeking stylish design, engaging driving dynamics, or maximum luggage space with all seats in place, or those wanting the most spacious MPV available.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Verso if: You're seeking practical, reliable and affordable seven-seater family motoring, prioritising flexibility and ease of use, or looking for low running costs and hassle-free ownership.

Consider alternatives if: You value stylish design, engaging driving dynamics, maximum luggage space with all seats in place, or require the most spacious MPV available.

Competitive Position: The Toyota Verso (2013-2018) is a strong contender in the used MPV market, offering exceptional reliability and affordability. Whilst rivals like the Vauxhall Zafira Tourer and Ford C-Max score slightly higher on CarGurus ratings, the Verso's bulletproof Toyota build quality, low running costs and practical flexibility make it an excellent choice for budget-conscious families. The Volkswagen Touran offers premium appeal, but at a higher price point. For hassle-free, dependable seven-seater motoring, the Verso remains a highly sensible option.
