Toyota Verso (2013-2018) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Clever and practical cabin | Short on luggage space if all seven seats are in place |
| Reliable, hassle-free family motoring | Dull looks, even for an MPV |
| Affordable used prices | Not all engines were available with an auto |
Quick Summary
The Toyota Verso (2013-2018) is a practical and reliable seven-seater MPV designed for families prioritising functionality over fashion. This generation offers clever cabin flexibility with individually sliding middle-row seats and completely flat-folding rear rows, providing excellent versatility for both passengers and cargo. The facelifted post-2013 models feature slimmer grilles and updated headlights. With 155 litres of boot space with all seats in place and 440 litres with the rear seats folded, it's ideal for family adventures. The cabin prioritises durability and ease of cleaning over visual appeal, featuring wipe-clean surfaces, seatback picnic trays, and bottle holders in the rear wheel arches.
The Verso delivers solid, dependable motoring with adequate motorway performance and reasonable economy across its petrol and diesel engine options. The 1.6-litre diesel achieves 62.8mpg, whilst the 1.6-litre petrol returns 41.5mpg and the 1.8-litre CVT automatic achieves 43.5mpg. Service intervals are every 12 months or 10,000 miles, with Toyota's 5-Club offering 20% savings on maintenance costs after five years. Insurance groupings range from 10 to 11, keeping premiums affordable. As a used car, the Verso represents exceptional value, backed by Toyota's legendary reliability and longevity, making it an indispensable choice for hassle-free family motoring.
Best for: Families seeking practical, reliable seven-seater transport, budget-conscious buyers prioritising dependability over style, and those needing flexible seating and storage solutions.
Not ideal for: Buyers wanting sharp styling or premium interior appeal, those seeking engaging driving dynamics, or those requiring maximum boot space with all seats occupied.

Consider alternatives if: You want sharp styling, premium interior appeal, engaging driving dynamics, or maximum boot space with all seats occupied.
Competitive Position: The Toyota Verso (2013-2018) stands out in the used MPV market for its exceptional reliability and user satisfaction, achieving a perfect 5.0 user rating. Whilst rivals like the Volkswagen Touran and Vauxhall Zafira Tourer offer slightly better value percentages and premium appeal, the Verso's Toyota pedigree, bulletproof build quality, and hassle-free ownership experience make it the sensible choice for families prioritising longevity and affordability.
