Toyota Verso (2013-2018) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Clever and practical cabin | Short on luggage space if all seven seats are in place |
| Reliable, hassle-free family motoring | Dull looks, even for an MPV |
| Affordable used prices | Not all engines were available with an auto |
Quick Summary
The Toyota Verso (2013-2018) is a practical and reliable seven-seater family MPV that prioritises functionality over style. This generation offers flexible seating arrangements with middle and rear rows that fold completely flat, creating a spacious cargo area. The cabin is durable and easy to clean, featuring seatback picnic trays and bottle holders in the rear wheel arches. Whilst the rearmost seats are cramped for longer journeys, they work well for short trips to school or activities. With 155 litres of boot space with all seats in place and 440 litres with the rear seats folded, it provides adequate storage for most family needs.
The Verso delivers solid, dependable motoring with adequate motorway performance and reasonable economy. The 1.6-litre diesel offers the best fuel efficiency at 62.8mpg, whilst petrol engines achieve between 41.5 and 43.5mpg. Service intervals are straightforward at 12 months or 10,000 miles, with Toyota's 5-Club offering 20% savings on maintenance costs after five years. Insurance groupings range from 10 to 11, keeping premiums budget-friendly. As a used car, the Verso represents excellent value, backed by Toyota's reputation for tremendous reliability and longevity.
Best for: Families seeking practical, hassle-free motoring, budget-conscious buyers prioritising reliability, and those needing flexible seating for seven passengers.
Not ideal for: Buyers wanting stylish design, those seeking engaging driving dynamics, or those requiring maximum boot space with all seats in use.

The Verdict
You should buy the Verso if: You're seeking practical, hassle-free family motoring, prioritising reliability and affordability, or needing flexible seating for seven passengers.
Consider alternatives if: You want stylish design, engaging driving dynamics, or maximum boot space with all seats in use.
Competitive Position: The Toyota Verso (2013-2018) stands out in the MPV market for its exceptional reliability and user satisfaction, achieving a perfect 5.0 user rating. Whilst rivals like the Volkswagen Touran and Ford C-Max offer better value deals and slightly higher overall ratings, the Verso's bulletproof build quality, low running costs, and Toyota's reputation for longevity make it an outstanding choice for families prioritising dependability over style.
