Vauxhall Corsa (2014-2019) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Lots to choose from, so you can afford to be picky	Doesn't excel in any one area
Cheap to buy and inexpensive to run	A Ford Fiesta is much more fun to drive
Decent practicality	The VXR is expensive to insure

Quick Summary

The Vauxhall Corsa (2014-2019), the fifth-generation model, is one of Britain's best-selling cars for good reason. It's cheap to buy, inexpensive to run, and appeals to a wide range of buyers from new drivers to pensioners. This generation offers a solid all-rounder approach with a 285-litre boot, decent practicality, and a range of engines and trims to suit various needs. The five-door model is more practical than the three-door, comfortably seating two adults in the back, though three will be tight. Higher-spec SE and Elite models feature split-folding rear seats for added flexibility.

Running costs are a major attraction, with reasonable insurance, Vehicle Excise Duty, and servicing costs. The diesel achieves an official 83.1mpg, whilst the VXR returns 37.7mpg; realistically, deduct 15-20% from these figures. From 2016 onwards, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity became available. Design trim and above offer air-conditioning and touchscreen infotainment, striking a good balance between cost and equipment. Vauxhall's fixed-price servicing and abundance of parts mean independent garages can service these cars affordably and efficiently.

Best for: Budget-conscious buyers seeking a sensible, practical supermini with low running costs, new drivers, and those wanting plenty of choice in the used market.

Not ideal for: Drivers prioritising engaging handling (like a Ford Fiesta), those seeking premium badge appeal (like a VW Polo), or buyers of the VXR variant concerned about insurance costs.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Corsa if: You're budget-conscious, seeking a sensible and practical supermini with low running costs, or wanting plenty of choice in the used market.

Consider alternatives if: You prioritise engaging handling, premium badge appeal, or are concerned about insurance costs for performance variants.

Competitive Position: The Vauxhall Corsa (2014-2019) is an incredibly abundant and smart choice in the used supermini market, offering excellent value and decent practicality. Whilst it may not excel in any one area compared to rivals like the Ford Fiesta for driving dynamics or the Volkswagen Polo for premium feel, its affordability, low running costs, and wide variety of models make it an excellent all-rounder. With plenty of versions to choose from, you can afford to be selective and find a car that perfectly suits your needs.
