Vauxhall Crossland (2021-2024) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Plenty of space inside	No electric or hybrid version
More striking to look at than its predecessor	Rivals like Seat Arona or Ford Puma are much better to drive
Reasonably well equipped	Automatic emergency braking not available on entry-level model

Quick Summary

The Vauxhall Crossland (2021-2024) is a practical and spacious small SUV that represents a significant improvement over its predecessor, the Crossland X. The 2021 facelift brought a distinctive new front end and numerous under-the-skin refinements to enhance the driving experience. With up to 520 litres of boot space (with sliding rear seats), generous headroom, and a well-assembled interior, it offers excellent practicality for families. The range includes multiple petrol and diesel engine options, from the modest 82bhp 1.2-litre to the sprightly 128bhp 1.2 130, with fuel economy figures reaching up to 61.5mpg for diesel models.

The Crossland is well-equipped across its four trim levels, with all models featuring touchscreen infotainment, DAB radio, Bluetooth, and smartphone integration. Suspension improvements deliver a more comfortable and confident ride than before, though it remains less engaging than rivals like the Ford Puma or Seat Arona. As a used purchase, the Crossland offers exceptional value, benefiting from Vauxhall's historically poor residual values. Service costs are reasonable, with interim services from £205 and insurance groups ranging from eight to 19. The car ceased production in 2024, replaced by the Frontera.

Best for: Families seeking practical, spacious transport with good equipment levels, budget-conscious buyers looking for value in the small SUV segment, and those prioritising interior space over driving dynamics.

Not ideal for: Drivers wanting electric or hybrid powertrains, enthusiasts seeking engaging handling comparable to the Ford Puma or Seat Arona, or those requiring automatic emergency braking on entry-level models.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Crossland if: You prioritise practicality and interior space, seek good value in the small SUV segment, or want a well-equipped family car with reasonable running costs.

Consider alternatives if: You desire electric or hybrid powertrains, want engaging handling comparable to the Ford Puma or Seat Arona, or require automatic emergency braking as standard across all trim levels.

Competitive Position: The Vauxhall Crossland (2021-2024) is a competent small SUV that excels in practicality and value, particularly as a used purchase. Whilst it doesn't match the driving dynamics of the Ford Puma or the all-round excellence of the Skoda Kamiq, its spacious interior, striking design, and reasonable equipment levels make it an attractive proposition for families and budget-conscious buyers. The Crossland's main strength lies in its affordability on the used market, where depreciation works in the buyer's favour. For those prioritising space and value over driving engagement, it represents a sensible choice in a competitive segment.
