Vauxhall Grandland (2026) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Lots of interior space	Very average to drive
Electric version is attractively priced	Quality isn't what it might be
Plenty of standard equipment	Mild hybrid version can be noisy

Quick Summary

The Vauxhall Grandland is a mid-size SUV that brings individual styling to a competitive sector with its distinctive Vizor front-end design and bold lighting signature. The cabin is spacious and comfortable, offering 550 litres of boot space (485 litres for the all-wheel-drive electric version) with versatile 40:20:40 split-folding rear seats. Available as a front-wheel-drive electric, all-wheel-drive electric, or mild-hybrid petrol model, the Grandland provides practical family transport with dual-zone climate control, adaptive cruise control, and modern infotainment systems across Design, GS, and Ultimate trim levels.

However, the Grandland delivers merely average performance in most areas. Ride comfort is patchy, with an underlying fidgety feel that never quite settles, whilst handling is uninspiring with light steering that lacks feel. The mild-hybrid petrol engine can be noisy and intrusive, and cabin quality, whilst featuring recycled materials, relies heavily on hard plastics throughout. The electric version offers a respectable 323-mile range with a 73kWh battery and 210bhp front motor, whilst the dual-motor variant adds 110bhp rear power for improved acceleration. Running costs are reasonable, with the electric model priced from £35,455 (including the £1,500 Government grant) and the mild hybrid from £36,600.

Best for: Families prioritising interior space and practicality, budget-conscious buyers seeking an electric SUV, and those wanting straightforward, unpretentious family transport.

Not ideal for: Drivers seeking engaging handling, premium cabin quality, or exceptional value compared to rivals, or those wanting a longer-range electric option.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Grandland if: You prioritise interior space and practicality, seek an attractively priced electric SUV, or want straightforward, unpretentious family transport with plenty of standard equipment.

Consider alternatives if: You value engaging handling, premium cabin quality, exceptional value, or require a longer-range electric option with more sophisticated refinement.

Competitive Position: The Vauxhall Grandland occupies a middle ground in the mid-size SUV market, offering practical space and competitive electric pricing but falling short of rivals in driving dynamics, cabin quality, and overall refinement. Whilst it delivers adequate family transport, the Volkswagen Tiguan, Nissan Qashqai, and Kia Sportage all score higher with CarGurus experts and users, offering superior handling, build quality, and value propositions. The Grandland's strength lies in its spacious interior and attractive electric pricing, making it a sensible choice for budget-conscious families, but it lacks the polish and engagement that make competitors more compelling purchases.
