Volkswagen Amarok (2023-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |

| Almost SUV-like driving dynamics | Still feels very large to drive and park |
| Five-year warranty and servicing package | No separate panel for heater controls |
Quick Summary
The Volkswagen Amarok (2023-present) is a premium double-cab pickup truck developed in partnership with Ford, combining commercial capability with a refined, SUV-like interior. This second-generation model features an extended wheelbase for improved crew cab space, impressive towing capacity of up to 3,500kg, and a payload of 1,113kg. Available with three diesel engine options—two 2.0-litre variants (168bhp and 202bhp) and a 3.0-litre V6 (237bhp)—the Amarok delivers strong performance whilst maintaining a composed, quiet driving experience. All models come with 4Motion four-wheel-drive as standard, featuring multiple drive modes for both on-road and off-road versatility.
The Amarok's main strength lies in its well-appointed interior, featuring an intuitive infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, quality materials, and comfortable seating for five. Trim levels range from Life to Aventura, each offering progressive upgrades in comfort and technology. Whilst fuel economy of 27–33.6mpg is respectable for its size, running costs are offset by the attractive five-year servicing and warranty package. As a commercial vehicle, it qualifies for favourable company car tax rates. The Amarok represents a worthy alternative to the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux, offering practicality, performance, and refinement in equal measure.
Best for: Commercial users and buyers seeking a premium pickup truck with SUV-like comfort, strong towing capacity, and comprehensive warranty coverage.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising fuel economy, seeking a more compact vehicle, or unwilling to pay a premium over the Ford Ranger.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

| Volkswagen Amarok | 4/5 | 5.0/5 | 33.3% | 4.3/5 |

The Verdict
You should buy the Amarok if: You're seeking a premium pickup truck with SUV-like comfort, strong commercial capability, and comprehensive warranty coverage.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise fuel economy, seek a more compact vehicle, or prefer the lower purchase price of the Ford Ranger.
Competitive Position: The Volkswagen Amarok (2023-present) is a strong contender in the premium pickup truck segment, offering superior interior quality and refinement compared to rivals. Whilst it shares its platform with the Ford Ranger, the Amarok distinguishes itself through a more luxurious cabin, intuitive technology, and an excellent five-year servicing and warranty package. However, it commands a price premium over the Ranger and Toyota Hilux. For buyers prioritising comfort and specification over outright value, the Amarok is an excellent choice, though the Isuzu D-Max offers comparable user satisfaction at a potentially lower cost.
