Volkswagen Scirocco (2008-2017) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Loads of cabin space for a sporty coupe | Not quite as sexy as an Audi TT |
| Driving experience balances sporty and sensible | Not as fun to drive as a BMW 2 Series |
| High-performance R is great fun | Potential reliability issues |
Quick Summary
The Volkswagen Scirocco mk3 (2008-2017) is a stylish and curvaceous three-door coupe that bears little resemblance to the Golf on which it's based. With wider suspension tracks and distinctive styling, it offers a genuinely different driving experience. The interior is classy and robustly constructed, with plenty of front headroom and comfortable sports seats. Despite the sloping roofline limiting rear headroom, the Scirocco remains surprisingly practical for a coupe, with a 312-litre boot expandable to 1,200 litres and genuine space for family duties.
All powerplants are turbocharged, delivering strong mid-range performance across the range. The entry-level 1.4-litre TSI offers 120bhp, whilst the higher-powered 2.0-litre TSI models provide the best blend of performance, smoothness and efficiency. The flagship Scirocco R delivers 261bhp and true sports car-slaying pace. Roadholding is very high, and the car's compact dimensions inspire confidence. However, reliability issues are a concern, with some owners experiencing costly repairs. A pre-purchase inspection by a reputable specialist is strongly recommended before purchase.
Best for: Buyers seeking a stylish, practical coupe that balances sporty performance with everyday usability, and those who appreciate distinctive design and mid-range turbocharged performance.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising ultimate badge appeal (like an Audi TT), the most engaging handling dynamics (like a BMW 2 Series), or buyers unwilling to invest in a thorough pre-purchase inspection due to potential reliability concerns.

| Volkswagen Scirocco | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 35.0% | 4.2/5 |

The Verdict
You should buy the Scirocco if: You're seeking a stylish, practical coupe that balances sporty performance with everyday usability, and you appreciate distinctive design and turbocharged mid-range performance.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise ultimate badge appeal like an Audi TT, the most engaging handling dynamics like a BMW 2 Series, or you're unwilling to invest in a thorough pre-purchase inspection.
Competitive Position: The Volkswagen Scirocco mk3 is a compelling choice in the affordable coupe market, offering distinctive styling, surprising practicality, and a well-balanced driving experience. Whilst it may lack the premium appeal of an Audi TT or the ultimate handling of a BMW 2 Series, its spacious interior, turbocharged performance across the range, and fun high-performance R variant make it an excellent all-rounder. However, potential reliability issues mean a pre-purchase inspection is essential. For buyers willing to take this precaution, the Scirocco represents a stylish and genuinely usable coupe that delivers both pleasure and practicality.

4.5 Overall rating
(8 reviews)Beautiful car in all ways. An absolute pleasure to drive. Good value for money at the price I paid . Only quibble is the lack of cruise control.
The car is a perfect all rounder car. You need a good looking car? You need a 4 seater car? You need boot space? Going long distance or short? Finding large car for parking an issue? Cheap road tax? Road bumps causing an issue? Look no further. This car deals with all of these with great positivity and expectations. Only con I can find in this car is the fact that you can feel those tiny bumps on uneven road very easily, it doesn’t ride smoothly as you would think cars are designed for. I’m sure tuning the suspicion may fix this. Otherwise the seats are very comfortable. Only reason why it doesn’t receive a full 5 star rating from me. Thank you
Exciting car just to look at yet alone drive. Great driving experience especially with the DSG box Needs more power but that is easily remedied because of the turbo Avery good buy
The car seems to be running perfectly although I haven’t yet taken it too far but so far so good so I am happy with the purchase. Think that the car was competitively priced and am happy with the model.
Lovely car but not for me Looking for a white model
