Volkswagen Tiguan (2024-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Brilliant for practicality and versatility | Infotainment system is way too complex |
| Nicely trimmed interior | Firm ride on larger alloy wheels |
| Good looks and desirable image | Many versions look rather expensive |
Quick Summary
The Volkswagen Tiguan (2024-present) is the third generation of VW’s best-selling mid-size five-seater family SUV, positioned as a premium offering among mainstream rivals. It boasts smart, conservative aesthetics with sophisticated touches and an interior quality that feels a cut above. Its practicality is a major highlight, providing impressive interior space with generous headroom and legroom for all occupants, a versatile sliding rear bench, and a large 652-litre boot (490 litres for PHEVs) complete with a false floor for added utility.
Powertrain options include mild-hybrid petrol (eTSI), diesel, and plug-in hybrids (eHybrid) offering an excellent 60-70 mile electric-only range. While eTSI engines can feel a little underpowered, the eHybrid models deliver brisk performance and significant efficiency, especially for regular chargers. The driving experience is competent with tight body control and responsive steering, though the ride can be firm on larger alloy wheels. The minimalist cabin features a large, slick touchscreen infotainment system that, despite its visual appeal, can be overly complex. Running costs are generally reasonable, though some higher-spec models may incur a luxury car surcharge.
Best for: Families needing generous space and a large boot, buyers seeking a premium feel in a mainstream SUV, and company car drivers looking for low Benefit-in-Kind tax with the plug-in hybrid options.
Not ideal for: Buyers on a strict budget, those who prefer physical controls over a complex touchscreen, or those prioritising a plush ride over a firm, controlled one.

The Verdict
You should buy the Tiguan if: You're a family buyer needing generous interior space and a large, versatile boot, you appreciate a premium-feeling cabin with good standard equipment, or you're a company car driver interested in the low BiK tax benefits of the plug-in hybrid.
Consider alternatives if: You are on a strict budget, prefer physical controls over a complex touchscreen interface, or prioritise a softer, more comfortable ride over a firm, controlled one.
Competitive Position: The Volkswagen Tiguan (2024-present) offers a compelling package in the competitive mid-size SUV segment, standing out with its impressive practicality, premium interior, and desirable image. While it might not be the cheapest option and its infotainment system can be overly complex, its wide range of powertrains, including efficient plug-in hybrids, and overall refinement make it a strong contender for families seeking a well-rounded and sophisticated SUV.

4.6 Overall rating
(21 reviews)A lot of bells and whistles for the money. The automatic is smooth and quick, in fact without the display you wouldnt know it had changed gear. Great car,I would highly recommend it.
Features are compatible to bmw x3, but £10,000 cheaper, brilliant
Owned a tiguan for 5 years previous so I new what a great car it is.
The size allows plenty of room for four adults, but is not too large to make supermarket parking practically impossible. The addition of rear seat adjustments in both seat position and backrest also helps to comfortably accommodate even the taller adults. The semi-auto DSG gearbox makes gear change almost imperceptible. Plus the ride is comfortable and composed over most surfaces.....except pothole-riddled roads. However, one must accept that only a military tank could travel along UK roads without subjecting its occupants to the bone-shaking jolts that we UK drivers routinely endure. The information display has a very wide range of menus and settings that provide ample data in a clearly defined manner. I cant compare this compact SUV to other makes because Ive not driven any offerings from rival manufacturers. The fact that Ive bought one should indicate I think the car is value for money.
Good service record and comfortable to drive. Looks sleek and modern
