The cd player is in a very awkward location but we will have to get used to it. The hatchback could have done with a self closing switch as it is quite heavy.

The size allows plenty of room for four adults, but is not too large to make supermarket parking practically impossible. The addition of rear seat adjustments in both seat position and backrest also helps to comfortably accommodate even the taller adults. The semi-auto DSG gearbox makes gear change almost imperceptible. Plus the ride is comfortable and composed over most surfaces.....except pothole-riddled roads. However, one must accept that only a military tank could travel along UK roads without subjecting its occupants to the bone-shaking jolts that we UK drivers routinely endure. The information display has a very wide range of menus and settings that provide ample data in a clearly defined manner. I cant compare this compact SUV to other makes because Ive not driven any offerings from rival manufacturers. The fact that Ive bought one should indicate I think the car is value for money.

Volkswagen Tiguan (2024-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Brilliant for practicality and versatility | Infotainment system is way too complex |
| Nicely trimmed interior | Firm ride on larger alloy wheels |
| Good looks and desirable image | Many versions look rather expensive |
Quick Summary
The Volkswagen Tiguan (2024-present) is the third generation of VW's mid-size five-seater family SUV, offering impressive interior space and a generously proportioned 652-litre boot. The cabin feels premium with smart, conservative styling and a high-quality interior that stands out amongst mainstream rivals. A comprehensive range of powertrain options includes two eTSI mild-hybrid petrol engines (128bhp and 148bhp), a 2.0-litre TDI diesel (148bhp), and plug-in hybrid eHybrid models (201bhp and 268bhp) with around 60-70 miles of all-electric range. Standard equipment is generous across all trim levels, including an 8-speaker sound system, DAB, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
The Tiguan delivers adequate performance with the eTSI engines, though they require notable effort to maintain moderate pace. The eHybrid plug-in hybrids are more impressive, offering brisk acceleration and impressive electric-only capability for daily commuting. The suspension has a firm edge on larger wheels, resulting in a slightly jittery ride at low speeds, though optional adaptive suspension can help. The infotainment system, whilst visually striking with sharp graphics and responsive touchscreens, is unnecessarily complicated with many functions buried in endless menus. Fuel economy is respectable, with the 148bhp eTSI achieving 45.6mpg and the diesel 52.3mpg in real-world driving. Insurance groups range from 18 to 31 depending on specification, and some versions incur a luxury car surcharge of £425 annually for years two to six if they exceed £40,000 when new.
Best for: Family car buyers seeking generous interior space, a large boot, and a stylish, desirable SUV with premium cabin quality and multiple powertrain options including plug-in hybrid capability.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising a cosseting ride, drivers who prefer straightforward infotainment systems, or budget-conscious buyers seeking the most affordable option in the segment.

The Verdict
You should buy the Tiguan if: You're a family car buyer seeking generous interior space, a large boot, stylish design, premium cabin quality, and multiple powertrain options including plug-in hybrid capability.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise a cosseting ride, prefer straightforward infotainment systems, or are seeking the most affordable option in the mid-size SUV segment.
Competitive Position: The Volkswagen Tiguan (2024-present) is a strong contender in the mid-size SUV market, offering excellent practicality, a premium cabin, and desirable styling. Whilst the Skoda Karoq and Kia Sportage score marginally higher with expert reviewers and offer strong value propositions, the Tiguan's superior interior quality, comprehensive standard equipment, and diverse powertrain range make it an excellent choice for discerning family buyers. The firm ride on larger wheels and complex infotainment system are minor drawbacks, but the overall package remains compelling for those prioritising space, comfort, and premium feel over outright value.
