Volvo V60 Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |

| Supreme long-distance comfort | A BMW 3 Series Touring is nicer to drive |
| An interesting alternative to a BMW or Mercedes | The V60 is starting to feel its age |
Quick Summary
The Volvo V60 is a sophisticated and stylish estate car that prioritises comfort, practicality and understated elegance. With 529 litres of boot space (1,441 litres with rear seats folded), it offers excellent luggage capacity alongside superior rear passenger space compared to rivals. The current B4 mild-hybrid petrol engine delivers 194bhp with respectable fuel economy of 37.6-44.1mpg. Standard equipment is comprehensive, featuring Volvo's renowned safety technology including City Safety automatic braking, blind-spot monitoring, and a 360-degree parking camera system. The interior is refined and well-appointed, with a 9.0-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital display, whilst the ride quality and refinement are exemplary for long-distance cruising.
The V60 excels as a comfortable, capable estate car for those who value space, design and effortless wafting over sporty engagement. However, at eight years into its lifecycle, it faces stiff competition from newer rivals. The Skoda Superb Estate and VW Passat Estate offer larger boots, whilst the BMW 3 Series Touring provides sharper handling. Running costs are reasonable, with servicing around £290 and insurance in groups 29-30. At £43,190 for the Plus trim and £47,290 for the Ultra, it represents a desirable alternative to German premium rivals, though buyers should be aware of the £325 annual luxury car tax surcharge.
Best for: Drivers seeking a comfortable, spacious estate car with premium styling and comprehensive safety features; those who value long-distance comfort and sophisticated design over sporty dynamics; buyers wanting a stylish alternative to German marques.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising maximum boot space, engaging driving dynamics, or the latest technology; buyers seeking a newer generation estate car with cutting-edge features.

The Verdict
You should buy the V60 if: You value comfort, sophisticated design and understated elegance; you prioritise long-distance cruising and practicality; you seek a stylish alternative to German premium marques.
Consider alternatives if: You need maximum boot space, engaging driving dynamics, or the latest generation technology and features.
Competitive Position: The Volvo V60 is a compelling choice in the premium estate car segment, offering distinctive Scandinavian design, exceptional comfort and comprehensive safety equipment. Whilst the BMW 3 Series Touring edges ahead with superior driving dynamics and the Skoda Superb Estate provides more boot space at a lower price, the V60 carves out a unique position for those seeking a refined, comfortable and stylishly understated alternative. Its premium feel, quality interior and long-distance capability make it an excellent choice for discerning buyers, though prospective purchasers should acknowledge that the model is nearing the end of its lifecycle and newer rivals offer more cutting-edge technology.

What people say
Very comfortable solid and feels well built a change from German cars
It is a solid safety orientated car. Full of useful gadgets and comfortable to drive. I would have preferred it to have a spare wheel instead of the inflatable foam as any blow out would mean that it could not be driven. In any case once you use the expanding foam it would mean that you would have to replace the tire instead of getting it repaired.
The car was great value for money , a lot of good features and an excellent drive
Solid, safe and reliable car. Excellent economy with plenty of room.
I am really impressed with all the safety features and the build quality of this car. Now I know why my son loved his Volvo cars.
