Volvo V60 (2018-Present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Crisp styling inside and out | VW Passat and Skoda Superb offer bigger boots |
| Supreme long-distance comfort | A BMW 3 Series Touring is nicer to drive |
| An interesting alternative to a BMW or Mercedes | The V60 is starting to feel its age |
Quick Summary
The Volvo V60 (2018-Present) is a stylish and comfortable premium estate car that serves as a strong alternative to German rivals like the BMW 3 Series Touring and Audi A5 Avant. It majors on sophisticated, understated design, both inside and out, and upholds Volvo's reputation for safety and practicality. While its 529-litre boot is useful and comes with clever features, it's outsized by the Skoda Superb Estate. However, the V60 compensates with generous rear passenger space and a supremely comfortable, refined ride that prioritises relaxed cruising over sporty engagement.
Since 2025, the V60 is offered new only as a B4 mild-hybrid petrol, but a wider range of petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid powertrains are available on the used market. Standard equipment is generous, particularly for safety, and the Google-based infotainment system is functional, though the car's technology suite is starting to show its age against newer competitors. Running costs are reasonable for the class, but its high list price means owners face extra VED charges for the first five years. It remains a desirable choice for those who value comfort, style, and safety over cutting-edge tech or driver thrills.
Best for: Buyers who prioritise style, long-distance comfort, and safety in a premium estate car, and who appreciate a relaxed driving experience.
Not ideal for: Drivers seeking the most engaging handling (try a BMW 3 Series), the largest possible boot (see the Skoda Superb), or the latest in-car technology.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Volvo V60 | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 36.4% | 4.3/5 |

| Audi A5 Avant | 4/5 | 3.7/5 | 36.8% | 4.2/5 |

The Verdict
You should buy the V60 if: You want a sophisticated and supremely comfortable premium estate that stands out from the German alternatives and prioritises safety and relaxed cruising.
Consider alternatives if: A sporty, engaging drive is your top priority, you require maximum luggage capacity, or you want the most up-to-date infotainment and technology.
Competitive Position: The Volvo V60 carves a successful niche in the premium estate market. It may not be the sharpest to drive like a BMW 3 Series Touring, nor the most cavernous like a Skoda Superb Estate, but it trumps both on sophisticated Scandinavian design and ride comfort. As a comfortable, safe, and stylish family car, it remains a compelling option, especially for those looking for an alternative to the default German choices.

What people say
Very comfortable solid and feels well built a change from German cars
It is a solid safety orientated car. Full of useful gadgets and comfortable to drive. I would have preferred it to have a spare wheel instead of the inflatable foam as any blow out would mean that it could not be driven. In any case once you use the expanding foam it would mean that you would have to replace the tire instead of getting it repaired.
The car was great value for money , a lot of good features and an excellent drive
Solid, safe and reliable car. Excellent economy with plenty of room.
I am really impressed with all the safety features and the build quality of this car. Now I know why my son loved his Volvo cars.
