Volvo XC60 (2025) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Looks classy both inside and out | No seven-seat option |
| Efficient petrol and plug-in hybrid engines | Not exciting to drive |
| A very practical family vehicle | Pricier than many similarly sized SUVs |
Quick Summary
The Volvo XC60 (2025) is Volvo's best-selling model, a premium SUV that competes effectively with Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz. The second-generation, on sale since 2017, received a comprehensive update for 2025, featuring subtle exterior changes and significant interior improvements, including a new, larger touchscreen and enhanced sound insulation. Its minimalist cabin, high-quality materials, and Scandinavian aesthetic give it an air of understated luxury, making it feel every bit as premium as its key rivals.
While not designed for sporty driving, the XC60 excels in ride comfort, providing a smooth and quiet experience, especially on motorways. The simplified engine line-up for 2025 includes the B5 mild-hybrid (247bhp) and T6/T8 plug-in hybrids (346bhp and 451bhp respectively), all paired with an automatic transmission. These offer strong performance and respectable fuel economy, though real-world PHEV efficiency depends heavily on charging habits. As a comfortable, upmarket, and family-friendly SUV, it prioritises refinement and ease of use over outright agility.
Best for: Drivers prioritising comfort, luxury, and a refined driving experience, especially for long journeys. Those seeking a safe, practical, and family-friendly premium SUV with efficient hybrid powertrain options.
Not ideal for: Buyers looking for a genuinely sporty SUV with engaging handling, needing a seven-seat option, or requiring class-leading boot space. Also, those who prefer physical buttons over a touchscreen for climate control.

4.6 Overall rating
(41 reviews)The XC60 is a wonderful car for touring and the longer distances. The seats are very comfortable and you get a god all round view of other road users. The 2.4 engine is flexible and will give around 40-45 MPG; the 2.0 litre is much more economical and has a lower road tax.
Most other cars will be lucky to make it to 150000 miles. The Volvo is DESIGNED. to do 300 thousand. Keep it serviced and you will never need any other car.
R Line. Superb car providing comfort, performance, good running costs. Cannot fault this car
The specification of the engine is ideal and it is one of the most economic engines for its size. Ideal for towing if required and easy on the fuel on a journey. Re-setting the clock is the only gripe I have so I leave it alone! The only other car I would chose is the Honda CRV but this has less leg room for taller persons.
Quality build great comfort and great mpg and cheap tax
