The Audi A6 Allroad looked like it had disappeared for good when it was discontinued in 2021, but after a five-year break it’s back. This all-new version is, as ever, a more rugged version of the standard A6 Avant estate, offering all of its space and sophistication along with added off-road ability.

The new Audi A6 Allroad has a makeover that follows a similar formula to the one used by every generation since the model first appeared way back in 1999. That means a raised ride height over other A6 Avant models and a range of cosmetic changes for a more rugged look. As well as bespoke front and rear bumpers, there are special hexagon-shaped inserts in the front grille and rear diffuser. There’s a gloss-black finish for the lower part of the bumpers, and also for the extended side sill and wheel arch trim.
One area where the new Allroad departs from every previous version is that it’s significantly wider than the standard A6 Avant, with the extra width coming not only from wheel arch extensions but also from wider front and rear body panels. In fact, these are likely to be the same as those used by the forthcoming RS6 Avant high-performance model, which is expected to go on sale in 2027.
Thanks to its redesigned bumpers, the Allroad is 17mm longer than the standard A6 Avant. Its body is 111mm (just over four inches) wider, while its adaptive air suspension system makes it between 9mm and 38mm taller, depending on the selected setting.

While there are big changes on the outside, the A6 Allroad’s interior is unchanged from the standard A6 Avant’s. That’s mostly – but not all – good news. When we tested the latest A6 Avant, we were impressed by its seat comfort and spaciousness. Interior quality is good, too, if not quite up to Audi’s traditional standards in a couple of places. The infotainment system – with its huge 14.5-inch centre display, 11.9-inch driver display and optional 10.9-inch passenger display – has lots of wow factor, but controlling some functions can be fiddly.
Boot space – traditionally an A6 strength – isn’t as generous as you might expect in the latest model. The Allroad has the same load capacity as other current A6 Avant models, so there’s a maximum of 466 litres to the load cover with a diesel engine or 404 litres for plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models. Although family-friendly, those figures are some way down on what you get with the BMW 5 Series Touring or Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate, not to mention much smaller estate cars such as the Volkswagen Golf.
An electric boot lid and load securing system are standard, while the rear seat features a versatile 40/20/40 split-folding function.
2026 Audi A6 Allroad: engines and driving dynamics
Initially, the A6 Allroad will be available with a choice of two engines – a 3.0-litre V6 diesel or a plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a 2.0-litre petrol engine with an electric motor.
The diesel option, badged 3.0 V6 TDI, has a maximum power output of 295bhp and uses mild-hybrid technology to improve low-speed acceleration and fuel economy. The plug-in hybrid, badged e-hybrid, gives a total of 362bhp and is able to travel up to 59 miles using electric power alone.
As with all previous versions, the A6 Allroad comes with four-wheel drive and adaptive air suspension as standard. In ‘balanced’, ‘comfort’ and ‘efficiency’ drive modes, the Allroad sits 34mm higher off the ground than an A6 Avant with air suspension.
The Allroad’s additional ‘offroad’ and ‘offroad+’ drive modes give an extra 15mm of ground clearance for any off-road excursions. Rear-wheel steering is standard for the PHEV version and optional for the diesel. It steers the rear wheels in the opposite direction at low speed for maximum manoeuvrability, while at higher speeds it steers in the same direction for added stability.

Prices for the Audi A6 Allroad start at £70,495 for the 3.0 TDI V6 and £72,920 for the e-hybrid. You can’t order or configure one yet, but Audi has confirmed an on-sale date of autumn 2026.
