Aston Martin Vantage (2018-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Easy to live with – an everyday supercar	Hugely expensive to buy and run
The 503bhp twin-turbo V8 is mighty	Not quite as thrilling as its predecessor
Choice of coupe and roadster models	Controversial looks

Quick Summary

The Aston Martin Vantage (2018-present) represents a significant departure from its predecessor, prioritising everyday usability over raw driving engagement. This modern iteration features a Mercedes-AMG sourced 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine producing 503bhp and 505lb ft of torque, delivering impressive performance with 0-62mph in 3.6 seconds for the coupe and 3.7 seconds for the roadster. Available as both coupe and roadster, the Vantage offers a strict two-seater layout with a usable boot and electrically assisted steering that makes it far more approachable in daily driving than its predecessor.

Whilst the new Vantage sacrifices some of the visceral thrills of the old model, it compensates with superior all-round capability, better fuel efficiency, and genuine practicality for a supercar. The eight-speed automatic transmission is particularly excellent, though a seven-speed manual remains available. Running costs are substantial, with real-world fuel economy around 22mpg, expensive tyres, and insurance group 50. A five-year service plan helps manage initial maintenance costs, but budget at least £1,000 annually thereafter. The V12 variant, introduced in 2022, offers 690bhp and 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds as a final celebration of Aston's legendary engine.

Best for: Buyers seeking a usable, everyday supercar with genuine performance and the prestige of the Aston Martin badge, and those who value practicality alongside thrilling acceleration.

Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers, those prioritising low running costs, or drivers seeking the raw, unfiltered driving experience of the previous generation Vantage.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Vantage if: You seek a usable, everyday supercar with genuine performance and the prestige of the Aston Martin badge, and value practicality alongside thrilling acceleration.

Consider alternatives if: You are budget-conscious, prioritise low running costs, or seek the raw, unfiltered driving experience of the previous generation Vantage.

Competitive Position: The Aston Martin Vantage (2018-present) stands as a compelling choice in the luxury supercar segment, offering exceptional user satisfaction and a perfect balance between performance and everyday usability. Whilst it may not match the Audi R8's expert rating or the Jaguar F-Type's value proposition, the Vantage excels as a genuinely practical supercar with stunning performance credentials. Its 503bhp twin-turbo V8 engine, available coupe and roadster variants, and refined interior make it the most accessible Aston Martin supercar ever built. For buyers prioritising prestige, performance, and practicality over outright value, the Vantage represents an outstanding proposition.
