The Fiat 500 is widely appreciated for its stylish design, compact size, and ease of maneuverability, making it a great option for urban driving. Owners often highlight its fun driving experience, economic fuel usage, and low costs for insurance and taxes. However, there are some concerns, particularly regarding comfort, as a few drivers mentioned seating issues in specific models. Overall, it presents excellent value for those seeking a reliable and eye-catching small car.

Good value. Exceptionally clean car with built in satnav. Would have loved all leather seats instead of partial leather.

Great ‘ this will be my second 500 I love how nippy they are, easy to drive and park. Economical on fuel, tax and insurance as a work run around it fits the bill perfectly.

2011 Fiat 500 lounge is a great little car... If you find one that's been looked after properly, then you will not be disapointed. Little features like start stop, bluetooth connectivity makes the car feel up to date. An affordable car that is at home in the city, great if you don't need large amounts of cabin space. My only dislike was the steering wheel... which was hard and smooth, making it feel like It could slip through my fingers.... I was worried that I would lose my grip on it if I didn't grasp it extra tightly. A steering wheel cover of some kind would add some much needed texture to aid grip & level of comfort.

Exceptional little car which offers all required for a reliable drive with style. All at a price which doesn’t break the bank.

Fiat 500 Hybrid Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Comfortable ride | Awkward pedal position |
| Feels special throughout | Cramped in the back |
| Easy to drive | Engine runs out of puff quickly |
Quick Summary
The Fiat 500 Hybrid is a stylish city car that prioritises aesthetic appeal and driving enjoyment over practicality. Fiat adapted its electric 500 platform to accommodate a modest 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with mild-hybrid assistance, creating a car that excels in urban environments. With just 64bhp, acceleration is leisurely (0-62mph in 16.2 seconds), but the eager engine and smooth gearbox make city driving engaging and fun. The ride is notably comfortable for a small car, and the driving position feels naturally Italian, offering a cheerful, characterful experience that few rivals can match.
However, the 500 Hybrid sacrifices practicality for style. The boot is tiny at just 183 litres, rear legroom is severely limited, and there's no five-door option. Running costs are uncompetitive; at around 40-45mpg, it underperforms rivals like the Kia Picanto and Renault Clio, whilst costing significantly more to purchase. The engine struggles on faster roads, making it unsuitable for regular motorway driving. This is a car for style-conscious urban drivers who prioritise character and charm over versatility and value.
Best for: Young, style-conscious drivers seeking a fun, characterful city car for urban commuting and shopping trips; those who value aesthetic appeal and driving enjoyment over practicality.
Not ideal for: Families needing boot space, those requiring rear passenger comfort, drivers who regularly use faster roads, or budget-conscious buyers seeking value for money.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fiat 500 Hybrid | 3/5 | 4.6/5 | 35.7% | 4.2/5 |
| Toyota Aygo X Hybrid | 3/5 | 4.8/5 | 42.0% | 4.4/5 |
| Renault Clio | 4/5 | 4.7/5 | 38.5% | 4.5/5 |
| Hyundai i10 | 5/5 | 4.4/5 | 36.1% | 4.5/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the 500 Hybrid if: You're a style-conscious urban driver seeking a fun, characterful city car for commuting and shopping trips, and you prioritise aesthetic appeal and driving enjoyment over practicality.
Consider alternatives if: You need boot space and rear passenger comfort, regularly drive on faster roads, or seek better value for money and practicality.
Competitive Position: The Fiat 500 Hybrid occupies a unique position in the city car market, prioritising style and character over practicality and value. Whilst rivals like the Toyota Aygo X Hybrid and Hyundai i10 offer superior practicality, better fuel economy, and stronger value propositions, the 500 Hybrid's distinctive design and engaging driving experience appeal to a specific demographic. The Renault Clio offers more space and equipment for similar money, whilst the Hyundai i10 delivers better overall ratings and value. However, for style-conscious buyers willing to compromise on practicality, the 500 Hybrid remains an unmatched choice in its segment.
