Quick Summary
The Fiat 500 Hybrid is a stylish city car that prioritises character and charm over practicality. Fiat reverse-engineered its electric 500 platform to accommodate a modest 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with mild-hybrid assistance, delivering just 64bhp. Whilst this makes it underpowered for faster roads, the eager engine and short gear ratios make it surprisingly nippy in urban environments. The 500 excels at putting a smile on your face with its cheerful personality and sophisticated ride comfort, though the 183-litre boot and cramped rear seats mean it's not suited to families or those needing practicality. The 500 Hybrid is best suited to style-conscious buyers seeking a fun, characterful city car for short journeys and urban commuting. With a starting price near £20,000, it commands a premium over rivals like the Kia Picanto, though running costs are reasonable at around 40-45mpg. The Icon trim offers decent specification including climate control, wireless smartphone mirroring, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen, whilst the La Prima adds luxury touches like heated faux leather seats and satellite navigation. This is a car that celebrates individuality and Italian flair over practicality and value.
Best for: Young, style-conscious drivers seeking a fun, characterful city car for urban commuting and short journeys, and those who value personality and comfort over practicality.
Not ideal for: Families needing boot space and rear legroom, drivers who regularly travel on faster roads, or budget-conscious buyers seeking maximum value for money.

The Verdict
You should buy the 500 Hybrid if: You're a style-conscious driver seeking a fun, characterful city car for urban commuting and short journeys, and you value personality and comfort over practicality.
Consider alternatives if: You need boot space and rear legroom, regularly travel on faster roads, or prioritise maximum value for money over style and character.
Competitive Position: The Fiat 500 Hybrid occupies a unique position in the city car market, trading practicality for personality and style. Whilst the Hyundai i10 offers superior expert ratings and overall value, and the Renault Clio provides more space and versatility, the 500 Hybrid appeals to buyers willing to pay a premium for individuality and Italian charm. Its comfortable ride, easy driving manner, and distinctive design make it stand out, though potential owners must accept compromises in power, boot space, and rear accommodation. For those prioritising style and urban driving, it's a compelling choice; for others, rivals offer better all-round practicality and value.

The Fiat 500 is widely appreciated for its stylish design, compact size, and ease of maneuverability, making it a great option for urban driving. Owners often highlight its fun driving experience, economic fuel usage, and low costs for insurance and taxes. However, there are some concerns, particularly regarding comfort, as a few drivers mentioned seating issues in specific models. Overall, it presents excellent value for those seeking a reliable and eye-catching small car.

What people say
I LOVE the Fiat 500, Im on my fourth, soon to be 5th but the seats in the Dolcevita are AWFUL, I just cant get comfortable in them at all so will have to go for a 1.0 or Lounge again.
Good value. Exceptionally clean car with built in satnav. Would have loved all leather seats instead of partial leather.
Great ‘ this will be my second 500 I love how nippy they are, easy to drive and park. Economical on fuel, tax and insurance as a work run around it fits the bill perfectly.
2011 Fiat 500 lounge is a great little car... If you find one that's been looked after properly, then you will not be disapointed. Little features like start stop, bluetooth connectivity makes the car feel up to date. An affordable car that is at home in the city, great if you don't need large amounts of cabin space. My only dislike was the steering wheel... which was hard and smooth, making it feel like It could slip through my fingers.... I was worried that I would lose my grip on it if I didn't grasp it extra tightly. A steering wheel cover of some kind would add some much needed texture to aid grip & level of comfort.
Exceptional little car which offers all required for a reliable drive with style. All at a price which doesn’t break the bank.
