Quick Summary
The Ford Mondeo (2014-2022), the fourth-generation model, continued the legacy of its predecessors by offering sparkling driving dynamics and being a spacious, practical, and well-equipped family car. Launched in 2014, it was available with EcoBoost petrol and Duratorq diesel engines in five-door hatch and estate body styles, with an economical hybrid option for the four-door saloon or estate. Production ceased in April 2022 as SUV sales soared.
This generation is a large and practical car, providing ample head and legroom for rear passengers and generous seat/wheel adjustment for the driver. It features deep door bins, numerous cupholders, and cubbies. The hatchback offers 654 litres of boot space (1,446 litres with seats folded), while the estate provides 755 litres (1,630 litres folded). The Mondeo delivers a plush, comfortable ride, making it refined and relaxing to drive, though it may lack the ultimate 'fun factor' of previous generations or smaller Fords. Running costs are generally reasonable, especially for diesel models, and service plans are available.
Best for: Drivers on a budget, families or executives seeking a spacious, practical, and well-equipped car, and those prioritising a comfortable and refined ride.
Not ideal for: Buyers seeking a premium interior feel, the absolute sharpest driving dynamics (compared to older Mondeos or sportier rivals), or class-leading hybrid economy.

The Verdict
You should buy the Mondeo if: You're on a budget, seeking a spacious, practical, and well-equipped family or executive car, or prioritising a comfortable and refined ride.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise premium interior materials, the sharpest driving dynamics, or class-leading hybrid economy.
Competitive Position: The Ford Mondeo (2014-2022) is a strong contender in the large family car market, offering excellent value as a used car, practicality, and a comfortable driving experience. While its interior may feel dated compared to some rivals and its driving dynamics are less engaging than previous generations, its affordability, reasonable running costs, and wide array of options make it a sensible choice. It competes well against alternatives like the Volkswagen Passat and Skoda Superb, especially for budget-conscious buyers.

(47 reviews)The car would be great value it runs smoothly and for the time I had it it was comfortable to drive
Very good car for what it is reliable and comfortable plus better then german rivals cheap er to fix.
Car is exactly as required but I feel it is overpriced
Really liked the features on this Mondeo and having owned similar but older models I am impressed. Especially liked the fact that there is a tow bar already in place. The interior trim/seats and tech are an upgrade to my current model.
Great all round family sized car with a huge boot. 2.0tdi is awesome, especially if you need to tow a trailer/caravan. Make sure the cam belt has been replaced on high milers, also check the ac is working. Ive owned 4 over the years, all diesels and never let me down.
