In the current market the price is high for the non facelift model without the digital dash and all the extras that brings to the car.

Ford Mustang (2014-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Fabulous old-school V8 of GT models | High running costs |
| Charismatic looks and driving experience | Mustangs with the four-cylinder engine have less character |
| Bullitt edition is sharp to drive | Cramped rear seats |
Quick Summary
The Ford Mustang (2014-present) is an iconic American muscle car that was the first to be officially available in the UK. This sixth-generation model combines retro-inspired styling with modern engineering, featuring a long bonnet, shallow glasshouse, and design flourishes that evoke the legendary 1964 original. The cabin takes inspiration from the classic model with its distinctive double-cowl dashboard layout. Available as a Fastback or Convertible, the Mustang offers genuine V8 performance at a fraction of the cost of European rivals, with the 5.0-litre V8 delivering over 400bhp of charismatic, old-school power. The 2018 facelift brought a more powerful engine (443bhp), improved SYNC3 infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a modern 10-speed automatic transmission.
Whilst the Mustang is a big car measuring nearly 4.8 metres long, the interior is surprisingly compact, with cramped rear seats suitable only for children or short journeys. However, the Fastback offers a generous 408-litre boot, and the Convertible provides 332 litres regardless of roof position. The multi-link rear suspension makes the Mk6 more suitable for British roads than earlier versions, though it remains an old-school bruiser that steers lazily and rides markedly compared to European sports cars. Running costs are significant, particularly for V8 models achieving around 20mpg, and tyre wear can be substantial. However, Mustangs are simple machines with reasonable servicing costs and good durability. As a used purchase, depreciation makes this already affordable muscle car even more accessible.
Best for: Enthusiasts seeking authentic American muscle car character, drivers wanting V8 performance at accessible prices, and those prioritising style and charisma over handling precision.
Not ideal for: Buyers needing spacious rear seating, those concerned about fuel economy and running costs, or drivers seeking European-level refinement and handling dynamics.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

| Ford Mustang | 4/5 | 4.0/5 | 32.1% | 4.0/5 |

| Porsche 911 | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 25.5% | 4.2/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Mustang if: You're seeking authentic American muscle car character, want V8 performance at accessible prices, or prioritise style and charisma over handling precision.
Consider alternatives if: You need spacious rear seating, are concerned about fuel economy and running costs, or seek European-level refinement and handling dynamics.
Competitive Position: The Ford Mustang (2014-present) stands apart from its rivals as a distinctive American muscle car offering genuine V8 character and charisma at a fraction of the cost of European performance cars like the BMW M4 and Porsche 911. Whilst European sports cars deliver superior handling precision, lighter weight, and more sophisticated engineering, the Mustang compensates with old-school charm, accessible pricing, and the unmistakable appeal of a rumbling V8 engine. For buyers prioritising fun and character over technical sophistication, the Mustang represents exceptional value. The 2018 facelift significantly improved the package with a more powerful engine and modern infotainment, making it the best modern Mustang available.
