Ford Tourneo Connect Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Hugely roomy inside	Other Fords are better to drive
Economical diesels great for high-mileage drivers	Interior feels a bit utilitarian
Well equipped	There's no fully electric version yet

Quick Summary

The Ford Tourneo Connect is a practical, van-based MPV that prioritises space and functionality over style. Available in five-seat and seven-seat (Grand) configurations, it shares Volkswagen underpinnings with the VW Caddy Life, delivering car-like handling and a conventional driving position. Engine options include a 1.5-litre EcoBoost petrol (113bhp), a 2.0-litre EcoBlue turbodiesel (121bhp), and a plug-in hybrid (148bhp). The seven-seat version offers an impressive 3,105 litres of boot space with all seats folded, significantly outpacing traditional family SUVs. Whilst it may lack the driving engagement of other Fords, its Volkswagen platform ensures reasonable grip and strong braking.

The Tourneo Connect excels in practicality, with comfortable front seats featuring lumbar adjustment, spacious second-row seating with rear sliding doors, and genuine third-row accommodation for adults or children. Running costs are competitive, with the diesel achieving around 40mpg in real-world driving and the plug-in hybrid offering 70 miles of electric range. Well-equipped across both Titanium and Active trim levels, it undercuts the VW Caddy whilst offering superior standard equipment. For growing, active families prioritising practicality and space over badge appeal, the Tourneo Connect represents excellent value, though those seeking a more engaging drive or fully electric option may wish to consider alternatives.

Best for: Families needing maximum interior space, high-mileage drivers seeking economical diesels, and buyers wanting practical transport without premium pricing.

Not ideal for: Those prioritising driving engagement, seeking a fully electric vehicle, or valuing premium interior ambience over utility.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Tourneo Connect if: You need maximum interior space, prioritise practicality over style, seek economical diesel engines for high-mileage driving, or want well-equipped family transport without premium pricing.

Consider alternatives if: You value engaging driving dynamics, require a fully electric vehicle, or prefer premium interior ambience over utilitarian functionality.

Competitive Position: The Ford Tourneo Connect is a strong contender in the van-based MPV segment, offering exceptional value and practicality. Whilst it undercuts the VW Caddy and offers superior standard equipment, rivals like the Peugeot e-Rifter provide electric motoring and the Citroen Berlingo offers a comparable alternative. The Tourneo Connect's key advantage lies in its competitive pricing, comprehensive equipment levels, and proven diesel efficiency, making it an excellent choice for families prioritising space and value. However, those seeking premium badge appeal or cutting-edge electric technology may prefer alternatives, and buyers wanting the most engaging drive should explore other Ford models.
