Honda CR-V (2026) Pros and Cons

| Big and practical boot | Infotainment now lags behind best in class |
Quick Summary
The Honda CR-V (2026) is a premium Japanese family SUV that has grown significantly in size and presence compared to its predecessor. The sixth-generation model is longer, wider, and more spacious, with a commanding driving position and exceptional interior room. Available exclusively as a hybrid (e:HEV) or plug-in hybrid (e:PHEV), the CR-V combines a 2.0-litre petrol engine with electric motors for smooth, efficient power delivery. The plug-in hybrid offers up to 50 miles of electric-only range, whilst the standard hybrid delivers approximately 42.2mpg on mixed driving. Both models feature fully equipped interiors with heated leather seats, panoramic sunroofs, and dual-zone climate control as standard.
The CR-V excels in practicality with a boot capacity of 579–617 litres depending on the model, expandable to 1,643–1,710 litres with rear seats folded. Rear seats recline and slide fore and aft by up to 19cm, maximising comfort and versatility. Whilst the ride and handling prioritise comfort over sportiness, the CR-V delivers a calm, composed driving experience with minimal noise once the engine warms through. The infotainment system features a 9.0-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, though it lags slightly behind class-leading alternatives. At over £47,000 for the hybrid and under £50,000 for the plug-in hybrid, the CR-V commands premium pricing, though it arrives comprehensively equipped with standard features.
Best for: Families seeking a spacious, practical, and dependable SUV with advanced hybrid technology, those prioritising comfort and interior room, and company car drivers (particularly the plug-in hybrid with its low CO2 emissions).
Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers, those seeking sportier handling dynamics, drivers requiring seven-seat capacity, or buyers wanting the latest infotainment technology.

The Verdict
You should buy the CR-V if: You prioritise spacious, practical family transport with advanced hybrid technology, value comfort and interior room, or are a company car driver seeking low CO2 emissions.
Consider alternatives if: You're on a tight budget, seeking sportier handling, require seven-seat capacity, or want the latest infotainment technology.
Competitive Position: The Honda CR-V (2026) is a solid contender in the premium family SUV segment, offering exceptional practicality, efficient hybrid powertrains, and comprehensive standard equipment. Whilst it commands premium pricing compared to rivals such as the Toyota RAV4, Kia Sportage, and Hyundai Tucson, the CR-V's spacious interior, large boot, and advanced technology justify the investment. The Skoda Kodiaq offers seven-seat capacity and strong user ratings, whilst the BMW X3 provides premium badge appeal. However, the CR-V's combination of reliability, comfort, and efficiency makes it an excellent choice for families seeking a dependable, well-equipped SUV without sacrificing practicality for prestige.
