Honda Jazz (2015-2019) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Spacious and practical for such a small car	A Ford Fiesta is much better to drive
Very reliable	Limited choice of engines
Easy to drive and cheap to run	Some rivals have longer new-car warranties

Quick Summary

The Honda Jazz (2015-2019), the third-generation model, is an economical and practical compact five-door hatchback that rivals superminis such as the Toyota Yaris, Ford Fiesta, Hyundai i20, and Skoda Fabia. Arriving in the UK in 2015, this generation featured a new platform, new engines, modern technology, and increased space compared to its predecessor. The innovative Magic Seat system allows flexible interior configurations, with rear seat bases flipping up cinema-style to accommodate tall items. With 354 litres of boot space (897 litres with seats folded), generous rear legroom, and improved cabin materials, the Jazz offers impressive practicality for its size.

The third-generation Jazz is a better car than its predecessor, offering more equipment, an improved driving experience, sharper looks, and a refined, upmarket interior. Initially powered by a 1.3-litre i-VTEC petrol engine achieving around 50mpg in real-world driving, a 128bhp 1.5-litre i-VTEC was added in late 2017. Whilst not as entertaining as a Ford Fiesta, the Jazz excels in reliability and practicality—factors of far greater importance to many buyers. Running costs are low, with road tax as little as £20-30 annually for early models, and Honda's approved used scheme makes purchasing straightforward.

Best for: Buyers prioritising practicality and reliability, families seeking a spacious compact hatchback, commuters wanting low running costs, and those valuing ease of ownership over driving excitement.

Not ideal for: Drivers seeking engaging handling and comfort comparable to a Ford Fiesta, those wanting a wide choice of engine options, or buyers requiring extended new-car warranties.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Jazz if: You prioritise practicality and reliability, seek a spacious compact hatchback for family use, want low running costs, or value ease of ownership over driving excitement.

Consider alternatives if: You desire engaging handling and comfort comparable to a Ford Fiesta, want a wider choice of engine options, or require extended new-car warranties.

Competitive Position: The Honda Jazz (2015-2019) is a strong contender in the compact hatchback market, offering exceptional practicality, reliability, and low running costs. Whilst it may not match the Ford Fiesta for driving dynamics or the Citroën C3 Picasso for user satisfaction, the Jazz excels in space efficiency and dependability. Its innovative Magic Seat system, generous boot capacity, and refined interior make it an excellent choice for families and commuters. The straightforward range and extensive used market availability further enhance its appeal as a sensible, practical, and easy-to-own vehicle.
