Hyundai Bayon Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Striking and unusual design	Uninspired interior design
Spacious and comfortable cabin	Lacks the sliding rear seats fitted to many rivals
Long warranty	Not as well equipped as the Hyundai Kona

Quick Summary

The Hyundai Bayon is a compact SUV that stands out from the crowd with its radical, distinctive styling featuring a snub nose, angular side profile, and boomerang-style rear lights. Based on the Hyundai i20 hatchback, it offers a higher seating position whilst maintaining practicality and comfort. The cabin is spacious with plenty of headroom and legroom, though the interior uses budget-friendly plastics. The current 89bhp 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine is modest but enjoyable to rev, with fuel consumption around 50mpg achievable with the manual gearbox.

The Bayon is surprisingly engaging to drive for a supermini-sized SUV, with responsive steering, good grip, and minimal body lean in corners. It rides bumps well without feeling skittish, making it a well-rounded package for families seeking affordable, cheerful transport. Hyundai's competitive pricing, long warranty, excellent reliability reputation, and reasonable servicing costs—including a metal timing chain requiring no replacement—make the Bayon an attractive proposition. Whilst rivals may feel smarter or more upmarket, the Bayon delivers strong value and practicality.

Best for: Budget-conscious buyers seeking a spacious, comfortable compact SUV with distinctive styling, long warranty coverage, and low running costs; families wanting practical, reliable transport.

Not ideal for: Those prioritising premium interior quality, maximum versatility with sliding rear seats, or the sharpest driving dynamics in the class.
