Reviewed a 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 6 on 7 Nov 2025
Best electric car, with great features and good value for money (if bought used). Smooth ride, amazing drive experience and there is nothing that I felt or experienced that is not up to the mark. Compare to similar other brands and models - Ioniq 6 is by far the most feature-rich and superb electric car. The quality of materials used both inside-out are just top-notch and can easily compare/even beat to some of the German rivals of similar price range.

Hyundai Ioniq 6 (2023-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Individual looks | Ride is decidedly firm |
| Pleasant to drive | Some disappointing pieces of interior trim |
| Stuffed with equipment and technology | Wing mirror cameras are a bit pointless |
Quick Summary
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is a battery electric vehicle that rivals the Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4. Inspired by 1930s aeroplanes, this sleek, bullet-shaped saloon achieves impressive aerodynamics of 0.21cD and delivers an official WLTP range of up to 338 miles with the rear-wheel drive model. The dual-motor, all-wheel drive variant offers 321bhp and a 0-62mph time of 5.1 seconds, though with a slightly reduced range of 322 miles. Based on the same E-GMP platform as the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Ioniq 6 boasts a long 2.95m wheelbase and 4.85m overall length, providing exceptional passenger space and some of the best technology in its class, including standard vehicle-to-load charging and an 800V charging system.
The Ioniq 6 is exceptionally efficient, achieving around 3.8m/kWh in real-world driving, translating to approximately 281 miles of range in mild conditions and around 220 miles on a long winter motorway drive. Running costs are competitive, with electricity costing around 12p per mile when charging at home (4p per mile on off-peak tariffs), significantly cheaper than petrol or diesel equivalents. The cabin features a minimalist, modern design with dual screens and a cocoon-like atmosphere, though some interior plastics feel less premium than rivals like the BMW i4 and VW ID.7. Rear passenger space is generous with excellent legroom, though boot space is more limited than hatchback alternatives. The ride can feel firm on poor road surfaces, and some storage solutions, such as narrow door bins, are impractical.
Best for: Buyers seeking a technologically advanced, efficient electric executive with distinctive styling, excellent range, and competitive pricing; those prioritising rapid charging capability and low running costs.
Not ideal for: Drivers prioritising ride comfort on rough surfaces, those seeking premium interior finishes throughout, or buyers requiring maximum boot space for family use.

| Hyundai Ioniq 6 | 4/5 | 5.0/5 | 29.3% | 4.3/5 |

The Verdict
You should buy the Ioniq 6 if: You're seeking a technologically advanced, efficient electric executive with distinctive styling, excellent range, and competitive pricing, or prioritising rapid charging capability and low running costs.
Consider alternatives if: You require premium interior finishes throughout, prioritise ride comfort on rough surfaces, or need maximum boot space for family use.
Competitive Position: The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is a genuinely appealing electric executive that blends cutting-edge technology, futuristic design with retro styling cues, and impressive efficiency. Whilst it faces strong competition from the BMW i4 and Tesla Model 3, both of which score marginally higher overall, the Ioniq 6 offers superior value for money and distinctive styling that sets it apart. The firm ride and some cheaper interior materials in lower trims are minor drawbacks, but the exceptional efficiency, generous space, and comprehensive technology package make it an excellent choice for buyers seeking a modern, practical, and cost-effective electric saloon.
