Reviewed a 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 6 on 7 Nov 2025
Best electric car, with great features and good value for money (if bought used). Smooth ride, amazing drive experience and there is nothing that I felt or experienced that is not up to the mark. Compare to similar other brands and models - Ioniq 6 is by far the most feature-rich and superb electric car. The quality of materials used both inside-out are just top-notch and can easily compare/even beat to some of the German rivals of similar price range.

Hyundai Ioniq 6 (2023-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Individual looks | Ride is decidedly firm |
| Pleasant to drive | Some disappointing pieces of interior trim |
| Stuffed with equipment and technology | Wing mirror cameras are a bit pointless |
Quick Summary
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is a battery electric vehicle that competes with executive cars such as the Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4. Inspired by 1930s aeroplanes, it features a distinctive streamlined design with a 0.21cD aerodynamic coefficient. Available with rear-wheel drive (225bhp, 338-mile WLTP range) or dual-motor all-wheel drive (321bhp, 322-mile range), the Ioniq 6 delivers impressive efficiency and practicality. Its 2.95-metre wheelbase provides exceptional passenger space, whilst the 800V charging system enables rapid charging at up to 220kW, achieving a 10-80% charge in approximately 18 minutes.
The Ioniq 6 is genuinely pleasant to drive, with seamless power delivery and responsive handling that feels more engaging than the Tesla Model 3, though the BMW i4 remains the sportier choice. Standard equipment is comprehensive, including vehicle-to-load charging, a heat pump, 12.3-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated seats, and adaptive cruise control. Real-world efficiency of 3.8m/kWh translates to approximately 281 miles of range in mild conditions, with electricity costs around 12p per mile at home charging rates. Whilst the ride can feel firm and some interior trim feels economical in Premium trim, the Ioniq 6 represents excellent value in the electric executive segment.
Best for: Buyers seeking a technologically advanced, efficient electric executive with distinctive styling, impressive range, and rapid charging capability, particularly those valuing practicality and interior space.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising the sportiest driving dynamics (BMW i4), access to extensive charging networks (Tesla), or the most premium interior ambience (Mercedes EQE), or drivers who prefer a softer ride quality.

The Verdict
You should buy the Ioniq 6 if: You're seeking a technologically advanced, efficient electric executive with distinctive styling, impressive range, and rapid charging capability, particularly valuing practicality and interior space.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise the sportiest driving dynamics (BMW i4), access to extensive charging networks (Tesla), the most premium interior ambience (Mercedes EQE), or prefer a softer ride quality.
Competitive Position: The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is a genuinely compelling electric executive that blends futuristic technology with retro-inspired styling and exceptional efficiency. Whilst the Tesla Model 3 offers access to Superchargers and the BMW i4 delivers superior driving dynamics, the Ioniq 6 stands out for its distinctive design, comprehensive equipment, rapid 800V charging, and outstanding value proposition. The Mercedes EQE offers greater premium appeal, but at a higher price point. For buyers prioritising efficiency, technology, and practicality without compromising on style, the Ioniq 6 represents an excellent choice in the competitive electric executive segment.
