Hyundai i10 (2020-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Very practical for such a small car | Entry-level cars don't have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto |
| Economical and well equipped | No three-door version |
| Generous warranty | Not as much fun to drive as a Seat Ibiza |
Quick Summary
The Hyundai i10 (2020-present) is a benchmark city car, packaging impressive practicality and features into a compact, affordable supermini. As one of the few remaining options in its class, it stands out with a surprisingly spacious five-door-only body, a well-designed interior, and a 252-litre boot. While some cabin plastics are hard, the build quality is robust, and the car is backed by Hyundai's excellent five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty, offering exceptional peace of mind for used car buyers.
On the road, the i10 impresses with a comfortable and composed ride that handles UK roads well, a quality often missing in this segment. The 1.2-litre petrol engine is the recommended choice over the entry-level 1.0-litre for its added flexibility, while the top-spec N Line model offers a punchy 99bhp turbocharged engine for more spirited performance. Running costs are low, with official fuel economy figures around 55mpg and low insurance groups, making the i10 an economical and sensible choice for daily driving.
Best for: City drivers, new drivers, and anyone seeking a highly practical, reliable, and economical small car with the security of a long manufacturer warranty.
Not ideal for: Buyers who prioritise driving fun over comfort (consider a SEAT Ibiza), those who need a larger boot, or drivers wanting a premium badge.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hyundai i10 | 5/5 | 4.7/5 | 26.7% | 4.5/5 |
| Kia Picanto | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 34.1% | 4.2/5 |
| Toyota Aygo X | 3/5 | 4.1/5 | 30.3% | 4.3/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the i10 if: You want one of the most complete city cars on the market, prioritising everyday usability, low running costs, and long-term reliability backed by an excellent warranty.
Consider alternatives if: Your priority is a more thrilling driving experience, a more premium-feeling cabin, or if you need more space than a city car can offer.
Competitive Position: The Hyundai i10 (2020-present) sets the standard in the city car class. It excels with its blend of practicality, comfort, and standard equipment. While rivals like the Kia Picanto offer similar value and the Toyota Aygo X provides quirky SUV styling, the i10’s superior ride quality, interior space, and unbeatable five-year warranty make it arguably the most sensible and well-rounded choice for most buyers.

4.7 Overall rating
(23 reviews)I am very happy with the car. It drives well for a 1.2 and is comfortable. We have a 4 door but space in back of the car and in the boot is very small. But this car suits our needs very well.
I bought the 1.2 ltr SE model which is plenty nippy enough for me. I dont need Alloys, Heated seats, or Sat Nav. I would have liked rear parking sensors, but as it is a small car this is not a problem. It has a good all round view and is not difficult to park. I It is more roomy than other cars in this class like the Skoda Citigo or the VW UP. It is also less expensive, but holds its value pretty well. I choose an automatic which has a very smooth gear change, unlike the Skoda Citigo, which was extremely jerky. The only car I thought was better was the Ford Fiesta, but in my opinion was very overpriced.
Good condition: Body work, Interior, mechanically. Meets our requirements for a second vehicle at a price tag which, in or onion was great value for the condition and mileage. Our previous experience with the Hyundai Brand has been excellent so did no compare other brands in our decision.
Excellent car. Very nippy. Lots of features on the car which is typical of Hyundai way ahead of time
I have been looking for a smallish car and the Hyundai i10 was just perfect size as I am a woman driver easy to drive good insurance cheap tax very good value and the price of the car was perfect for me.
