Jaguar E-Pace (2017-2024) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Decent handling | Overly firm ride |
| Stylish design | Reliability concerns |
| Good standard equipment | Interior quality not what you'd expect |
Quick Summary
The Jaguar E-Pace (2017-2024) is a small family SUV that combines the prestige of the Jaguar badge with practical everyday usability. Launched in 2017 and facelifted in late 2020, it was marketed as a compact SUV with the heart of a sports car. The E-Pace offers decent boot space of 577-601 litres, depending on model year, and a stylish interior with smart infotainment systems. Early models feature the Touch Pro system with a 10-inch touchscreen, whilst post-2020 models benefit from the improved Pivi Pro system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
The E-Pace is available with a range of petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid engines, offering flexibility for different driving needs. Petrol engines include the P160, P200, P250, and P300, whilst diesel options comprise the D150, D180, D200, and D240. The plug-in hybrid P300e delivers 309bhp for those seeking performance with lower emissions. However, the ride quality is notably firm compared to rivals like the Volvo XC40, and interior materials don't quite match the premium feel of competitors such as the Audi Q3. Running costs are moderate, with fuel economy varying from around 28-40mpg depending on engine choice and driving conditions.
Best for: Buyers seeking a stylish premium compact SUV with the Jaguar heritage, those wanting good standard equipment across the range, and drivers who prioritise decent handling and performance options.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising ride comfort over handling, buyers concerned about reliability, or those expecting interior quality to match premium rivals like Audi or BMW.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jaguar E-Pace | 3/5 | 4.8/5 | 32.7% | 4.1/5 |
| Audi Q3 | 4/5 | 4.1/5 | 33.2% | 4.3/5 |
| Range Rover Evoque | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 32.4% | 4.3/5 |
| BMW X1 | 4/5 | 4.4/5 | 35.6% | 4.4/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the E-Pace if: You're seeking a stylish premium compact SUV with Jaguar heritage, want good standard equipment across the range, or prioritise decent handling and performance options.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise ride comfort over handling, have concerns about reliability, or expect interior quality to match premium rivals like Audi or BMW.
Competitive Position: The Jaguar E-Pace (2017-2024) is a competent compact SUV that offers style, decent handling, and good standard equipment. However, it faces stiff competition from more talented rivals. The Audi Q3 and BMW X1 offer superior interior quality and reliability, whilst the Range Rover Evoque provides a more cosseting ride. The E-Pace's firm suspension and interior materials fall short of these competitors' premium positioning, and reliability concerns further weaken its case. For buyers prioritising the Jaguar badge and stylish design, the E-Pace remains a viable choice, but most will find better value and overall satisfaction with its rivals.

4.9 Overall rating
(11 reviews)Drives beautifully and corners perfectly unfortunately the boot is too small for my golf clubs.
Very good value with high spec and a lot of optional extras were included as standard.
Its a great match for me and my family.
The E-Pace we tested and subsequently bought is highly equipped and a pleasure to drive. The Heads Up Display its a terrific bonus if you get that option as are the 360 degree cameras and blind spot indicators. The 2.0 diesel (180) automatic has a good balance of performance and economy with a lively pick up on acceleration and a smooth 9 speed auto. Personally I wouldn’t consider the manual transmission unless I was buying a sports car. If it’s luxury you want in town and city stick to the automatic. I have had 23 Jags over the years so I’ve got plenty to compare it to and although the SUVs in the range don’t give the same style and handling as the saloons and sports cars they still look and feel more exclusive than their BMW and Mercedes competitors. If you are looking for a luxury SUV that is stylish, comfortable and handles better on road than most, then you might want to consider the Jag.
It was a lovely drive, beautiful car , very nice
