Jaguar E-Pace (2017-2024) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Decent handling	Overly firm ride
Stylish design	Reliability concerns
Good standard equipment	Interior quality not what you'd expect

Quick Summary

The Jaguar E-Pace (2017-2024) is a small family SUV that combines British luxury styling with sports car aspirations. Released in 2017 and facelifted in late 2020, it features a range of petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid engines, with most models equipped with nine-speed automatic transmissions and available all-wheel drive. The interior is smart-looking with good standard equipment across the range, though materials don't quite match premium rivals. Boot space is generous at 577-601 litres, and there's comfortable seating for adults with decent headroom and legroom.

However, the E-Pace struggles with ride quality compared to rivals like the Volvo XC40 and Range Rover Evoque, feeling firm and less cosseting than expected from a luxury SUV. Handling is solid but disappointing compared to other Jaguars, and reliability concerns have been noted. The infotainment system was significantly improved with the 2020 facelift introduction of Pivi Pro. Running costs are moderate, with fuel economy varying from around 30mpg for petrol models to 36-40mpg for newer engines. Annual VED is £150, rising to £475 for cars costing over £40,000 when new. Servicing is relatively expensive compared to rivals.

Best for: Buyers seeking a stylish, well-equipped premium compact SUV with British heritage and good standard features, and those prioritising design and badge appeal over driving dynamics.

Not ideal for: Drivers wanting the finest ride comfort, those concerned about reliability, buyers seeking interior quality matching the Audi Q3, or those prioritising driving engagement like other Jaguars.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the E-Pace if: You prioritise stylish design and British heritage, want good standard equipment, and are seeking a well-equipped premium compact SUV with a distinctive look.

Consider alternatives if: You value ride comfort, interior quality, reliability, or driving engagement comparable to other Jaguars or premium rivals.

Competitive Position: The Jaguar E-Pace (2017-2024) is a stylish and well-equipped premium compact SUV that falls short of its rivals in several key areas. Whilst it offers decent handling and an attractive design with good standard features, it struggles with ride quality compared to the Volvo XC40 and Range Rover Evoque, and lacks the interior quality of the Audi Q3. Reliability concerns and disappointing driving dynamics for a Jaguar further weaken its position. However, for buyers prioritising design, badge appeal, and standard equipment over outright driving engagement or comfort, the E-Pace remains a compelling choice in the competitive premium compact SUV segment.
