Jaguar F-Pace (2016-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Great to drive | High running costs with V8 models |
| Good standard equipment | Poor interior quality on pre-facelift cars |
| Roomy and practical | Firm ride, especially on larger wheels |
Quick Summary
Jaguar's first SUV, the F-Pace, arrived in 2016 as a "performance crossover" aimed at rivals like the Audi Q5 and BMW X3. It successfully translates the brand's sporty driving dynamics into a practical family car, offering sharp handling and an engaging feel. It's also very practical, with a spacious cabin and a large boot that offers over 600 litres of space in most versions, making it highly competitive within its class. The plug-in hybrid model has a slightly smaller boot to accommodate its battery pack.
The F-Pace has evolved significantly, with a major 2021 facelift introducing a far more luxurious interior and a much-improved Pivi Pro infotainment system, bringing it in line with premium rivals. A wide range of engines is available, from efficient diesels to the monstrously powerful SVR V8, though running costs for performance models are high. While the focus on sporty handling can lead to a firm ride, the F-Pace remains one of the most enjoyable and stylish premium SUVs to drive, especially in post-facelift form.
Best for: Drivers seeking a stylish and practical family SUV that is also genuinely fun and engaging to drive, particularly those considering newer, post-2021 models.
Not ideal for: Buyers who prioritise a comfortable and quiet ride above all else, those with concerns about high running costs, or anyone considering pre-2021 models who expects a top-tier premium interior.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jaguar F-Pace | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 33.1% | 4.3/5 |
| BMW X3 | 5/5 | 4.5/5 | 33.9% | 4.5/5 |
| Audi Q5 | 4/5 | 4.2/5 | 32.8% | 4.4/5 |
| Alfa Romeo Stelvio | 3/5 | 4.2/5 | 33.3% | 4.0/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the F-Pace if: You want a family SUV that offers an engaging drive, standout styling, and excellent practicality, and you are happy to trade some ride comfort for sharp handling.
Consider alternatives if: A supremely comfortable and quiet ride is your top priority, or if you're concerned about high running costs and the dated interior of pre-2021 cars.
Competitive Position: The Jaguar F-Pace is a highly desirable premium SUV that successfully blends sporty handling with family-friendly practicality. Post-2021 facelift models are particularly competitive, thanks to their much-improved interiors, closing the gap to German rivals. While it may not offer the ultimate comfort of an Audi Q5, its engaging driving experience and distinctive style make it a compelling choice for those who value driver enjoyment.

4.8 Overall rating
(20 reviews)I have never driven another car that is as responsive as the jaguar and the quality of finish is superb
Comparing to E-Pace same year 2020 similar model the trim level isnt as nice. It feels less luxurious. However its still pure class. And the glass roof makes traveling in the back so nice. Mpg in the 2lt diesel version averages mid 40s mpg. Its a solid capable large car. The E-Pace was a really nice car to drive and look at however boot space was lacking and I was forever getting battery issues.
Fantastic car great mpg its not got as much on it as xf but still a great care, its great value overall
Outstanding vehicle with great features and fantastic handling all round
Base model has no reversing camera which I do miss. Apart from that a very comfortable ride, firm responsive steering. Cant wait to do some long drives.
