Jaguar F-Type (2013-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Sublime styling | Only two seats |
| Great fun to drive | V8 drinks fuel |
| Relatively good value for what it is | Tiny boot in convertible models |
Quick Summary
The Jaguar F-Type, launched in 2013, revitalised Jaguar's sporting heritage as a spiritual successor to the iconic E-Type. Available as both a coupe and convertible, it initially featured V6 and supercharged V8 engines, with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder becoming the primary option after extensive revisions in 2020. These updates also brought sharper styling, an enhanced interior, and an improved infotainment system, positioning it against rivals like the Porsche 718 and even higher-tier sports cars in its most potent forms.
Engine choices span from the agile 300hp P300 four-cylinder to the formidable 575hp P575 R V8, all paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. While the V8s offer thrilling performance, they come with higher running costs, including fuel consumption in the 20-26mpg range and higher insurance groups. The F-Type is generously specified across its three trim levels, featuring LED headlights, climate control, and a Meridian sound system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto as standard, offering a blend of luxury and performance.
Best for: Drivers seeking a stylish, engaging, and relatively good-value sports car that stands out from German rivals; those desiring supercar-level performance without the supercar price tag (V8 models).
Not ideal for: Buyers needing more than two seats; those prioritising ultimate fuel economy (especially with V8s); individuals sensitive to higher insurance costs or repair bills for its aluminium structure.

The Verdict
You should buy the F-Type if: You're seeking a stylish, engaging, and relatively good-value sports car that stands out from German rivals, or desire supercar-level performance without the supercar price tag (V8 models).
Consider alternatives if: You need more than two seats, prioritise ultimate fuel economy (especially with V8s), or are sensitive to higher insurance costs or repair bills for its aluminium structure.
Competitive Position: The Jaguar F-Type stands as a compelling alternative in the luxury sports car segment, offering head-turning looks, engaging driving dynamics, and a well-appointed interior. While it might not match the clinical precision of a Porsche 718 or 911, it provides a distinctive British character and, in its more potent V8 forms, performance that rivals supercars for significantly less money. Its blend of style, power, and relative value makes it an attractive choice for buyers seeking something beyond the German mainstream.

4.5 Overall rating
(15 reviews)Best car I have ever owned and driven in 65 years
I think it’s good quality and the price is right for the. F type differential integrity also body makes and styles it seems rather exquisite delicate and artistic
Perfect in every way the car to buy as a future classic
Looks great from any angle. The bargain 300hp 2.0 version has plenty of power and returns 35+mpg. Put it in Sports mode and it flies. Would have liked a bit more room inside for a coat, jumper, map etc; the rear shelf is not usable. But as a drivers car its fantastic.
Its a great car with a great exhaust sound, if you want a huge powerful v8 and youre not worried about running costs this is the one for you.
