The Renegade is Jeep’s smallest SUV and shares a platform with the Fiat 500X, which is built in the same factory. It was launched in 2015 to get in on the compact SUV boom and, diminutive though it may be compared with the brand’s heftier models, the boxy styling and seven-bar grille are unmistakably Jeep. Rivals include the Audi Q2, the MINI Countryman and the Honda HR-V. The two petrol-engined versions are front-wheel drive only, but there is also a plug-in hybrid version, known as the Renegade 4xe, which pairs a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine – which drives the front wheels – with an 11.4kWh battery pack and electric motor, which powers the rear wheels.
