Kia Picanto (2017-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Decent-sized boot for a city car | Ride could be smoother |
| Long warranty from new | No electric version |
| Low running costs | Entry-level 1 trim lacks key equipment |
Quick Summary
The Kia Picanto (2017-present), now in its third generation, is a funky-looking city car that aims to deliver value without sacrificing comfort or safety. This model has received two facelifts, in 2020 and 2024, updating its styling and trim levels. For a city car, it offers a surprisingly spacious and comfortable interior with solid build quality. Its 255-litre boot is among the largest in its class, expandable to 1,010 litres with the rear seats folded, and higher trims feature an adjustable boot floor for practicality.
Driving the Picanto is generally comfortable and composed, with light steering that makes town manoeuvring easy, though the ride could be smoother than some rivals. Engine options include a 66bhp 1.0-litre, an 83bhp 1.25-litre (recommended for all-round use), and a more powerful 99bhp 1.0-litre T-GDi (pre-2024 facelift). Running costs are low, with affordable insurance (groups 1-11) and annual servicing. Kia's seven-year warranty provides excellent peace of mind, making it a well-equipped and economical choice for urban drivers.
Best for: City drivers, budget-conscious buyers, those seeking a practical and well-equipped small car, buyers who value a long warranty and low running costs.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising the smoothest ride, maximum rear legroom, or those requiring an electric city car option.

The Verdict
You should buy the Picanto if: You're seeking a practical, well-equipped, and affordable city car with low running costs and a long warranty.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise a smoother ride, maximum rear legroom, or require an electric city car option.
Competitive Position: The Kia Picanto (2017-present) is a strong contender in the city car segment, offering excellent value, practicality, and a comprehensive package. While rivals like the Hyundai i10 might offer a slightly smoother ride, the Picanto stands out with its generous standard equipment on higher trims, low running costs, and Kia's class-leading seven-year warranty, making it a very sensible and appealing choice for urban drivers and budget-conscious buyers.

4.1 Overall rating
(18 reviews)Bought this after loving my Picanto 3. I knew it would have fewer extras but I’m quite happy with it. No heated seats or steering wheel AC is awful Dash not quite as modern but I prefer the Speedo, it’s nice and big /visual Steering wheel controls the same No parking sensors. The price difference was necessary for me but if you re looking at both ( and can find a 3, my advice would be go for the 3
I really like the colour of the car and the size. For the engine size, it is quite quick. The car is excellent value for money.
Good car and value. Replacing my current 54 reg Kia thats done 106,000 miles and has never let me down. Wouldnt purchase any other make.
Great small car. Nippy enough and low insurance bracket. Air con definitely a plus in the model 2.
I prefer Kia Picantos to any of my previous cars. This one looked great and good value for money.
